IMFL triathlete in critical condition

"Officials say the 35-year-old white male was drowning during the swimming portion of the race this morning, and several hours later authorities were still trying to determine what caused the man to drown.

Maj. Dave Humphreys with Panama City Beach Police said, “During the swim, apparently this individual became distressed. Some other tri-athletes, we don’t know who they are, apparently motioned for help. Two Navy divers were able to get the man to shore and get an ambulance called, and the individual was transported to the hospital.”

I assume this is the same athlete talked about in the long IMFL race day thread.

The word on-site is that someone died but I have not found anyone who could confirm it. It sounds like this is who they are talking about.

My sister in-law and several other friends watched them work on “someone” on the beach who they all swear was at least 50. They said they did CPR for a long time before getting him up the beach to EMS.

I think if there was a death we would have heard about that also.

How very sad. Here’s hoping for a full recovery.
