IMFL the good, the bad, and the ugly

“I just didn’t understand the relevance of your religious affiliation “background”, and correct me if I’m wrong, but Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. are as capable of being sincere as Christians are …”

Everyone knows Christians don’t lie and stuff - well except for Ted Haggard

I happen to be a Christian, of which I am proud…
That folks, is not what my original post was about. I included that in my letter to IMNA and BBR only as a background, and show of sincerity.

“Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” - Jesus, in MATTHEW 6:1

You beat me to it.

Your letter might be a little on the long side like others have suggested. Let me help you summerize. You are a “Christian Triathlete” You failed to guarantee your hotel room using a credit card. You met a rude person race morning. You saw a bike wreck (some people didn’t stop to “help”)

Did I leave anything out?

May I suggest you stick to races closer to home.

you guys should give him a break. he seems like a good guy. he went out of the way twice to help someone out. i would have been pissed off also if my reservations were cancelled without being notified or even if i was notified.

i’ve done his race in huntsville and he puts on a good race.

O

OK you guys win, just tyring to give my impressions of the race.

Thanks Owen, and oh, Triteach, Hawaii was an outstanding trip last year.

Hey Rick,

Sorry to hear about the SNAFUs.

Funny, no one mentioned the cool part about the rider asking about his bike. That was awesome. You did what was right. I have always said there are only two reasons for getting off one’s bike; a mechanical issue or to render aid. Even if one is on PR pace, you must do what is right. The prize only goes to the ones who compete according to the rules. You got the prize, the others didn’t.

Don’t worry about getting slammed for your belief. There is quite a bunch here who always are just looking for something to criticize. I see that all the time on this forum.

Although I train hard, very hard, triathlon in the end is inconsequential, unless one uses it as a “vehicle” to always do what is right and to help others. That in the end is what’s important.

Nice post TriGuy. What a crazy story!
I had a guy go down rounding a corner in front of me and several others, and I started to slow and asked him if he was alright, but there were volunteers right there and they said “you aren’t allowed to stop and help!”. I thought that was kind of weird, but it was a relatively low-speed crash and he seemed to be okay. Hope he was!

I am sorry that you had a bad experience at IMFL. Please note that many businesses over book do to cancellations, hotels being just one industry. My flight was over booked and I waited 6 hour in an airport heading to the race. I raced and had a great time. I thought that the volunteers were Wonderful. I said " Thank You" to everyone as I past them. I know that without all the wonderful people who volunteer, my experience would be less and may not even happen.

I hope that you would not let a person jumping a race ruin all the training you have completed. As I entered the changing tent from swim to bike there was a young man. Going off, yell taking up 4 or 5 chairs. He cursed at me and was so flustered at himself, that all I said was “relax it’s going to be a long day”. There I could see smiles on all the face around this person, yes we got it, he did not. You can’t let some rude person get you off your race plan. I always focus on what I have control of, not the weather, not the waves, not the rude people. (There are very few rude tri people. try USCF then talk to me). Yes please write your letter, but if you would like to make changes that will have a positive effect on IMFL, focus on opportunities!!!

I hope that people reading this forum all get a chance to race IMFL, it’s fast and flat and lots of FUN. Yes 10:27:54 of all smiles and FUN

Thank You IMFL
