IMFL my thoughts

I have to say being my first ironman I was bummed about the swim, but it was the best call. I live and surf at the beach year round and would have swam if they wanted us to. What the pictures and bout reports did not show was the incredible cross current from the 25moh side shore winds. People would have end up 1/2 mile down the beac before they turned around. It was 100% the right call.

As for the rest of the race, the bike was tough in the wind but hey it’s an ironman.

The volunteers were they best I have ever seen! Compared to regional events that don’t even come close.

More then enough and always with a smile. Even offered to put my socks on for me!

Aid stations had more then enough food and volunteers.

In the end they out on a good show and was well worth the money in my book. Not sure the iron distance is for me but it was a great time!

Agreed. Volunteers were awesome, my personal helper in T2 was great. WTC puts on a good event. It was my first IM so I was also bummed about the swim, but you can’t control the weather. I’m just glad those bike headwinds were at the start rather than the end. I’m also glad I had a fairly low bib # for the TT start so I wasn’t running after dark, it got cold again fast once the sun went down.

Hope you had a good race.

At least you had a race, compared to what happened to us at IMLT with the smoke.

You guys were just a day early. The gulf looks like a bath tub this morning.

I complete agree with the OP.

I saw lots of commentary from people from the Midwest, and quite honestly think the only thing to look at is the size of the waves. There was ALOT of water moving (and that inside sandbar didn’t help matters). I have grown up surfing my whole life, and there is something that happens after staring at the water for days upon days (if not years at this point in my life) that you can look at a picture and understand what is going on.

I will agree, the RD made the right call. Only way to of had that swim is if it was a point to point swim (would have been FAST), and logistically that was out.
