Out come all the lurking BT’ers…
He is too cool!!!
As seen around the country and in Texas…
(from the PCB paper: http://photos.emeraldcoast.com/nherald.showalbum.db.php?aID=202&pNum=19)
Clearly his flagpole is too high… I also bet that he could go faster if it were not a round tubed flagpole
that’s funny!
so…have we determined this guy as THE jeepfleeb?
…on the bike course pedaling with ONE crank-arm?! And no, he was not a physically challenged athlete…his left leg was just dangling with a shoe on – no crank arm in sight. Anyone know if or how he finished?
Or, what about the guy who carried a huge American flag on about a 4ft pole for the entire run?
Amazing…both of them.
Yup, that would be me on both counts.
My left crank arm fell off at mile 71. I got to the aid station at the turn around of the out-and-back, but they had no idea how long it was going to take. So I just kept moving down the road until the tech van could get to me. Found them a little over 15 miles later. So I lost a good chunk of time but still managed sub-12.
Anyone know the story here? Attention whore or what?
I’m a patriotic attention whore with a serious race addiction, thank you.
The flag thing started as a 9/11 tribute at the Dallas Freedom Run 5K. Then it carried over into my first marathon, ultra, IMs, etc.
He’s not all that slow on the bike I must say and if he’d get serious about it he could probably be a pretty good triathlete.
I’ll start working with a coach in a few weeks and earning a Kona slot is the first thing on my list.

15 miles on a single crank arm? Is that a poor mans’ Power Cranks set or what? Or, do you already use PCs?
And still under 12 hrs, amazing.
Of course, you know what Tom D is going to say about this, don’t ya?
Haha, funny you mention PC’s… but I think that he does actually train on them!
‘If I ever become a Christian I’ll carry a cross in my races and write off the entry and travel expense.’
Dude made me blow a snot bubble.
Obviously he’s not a true patriot if he didn’t drag the flag after him during the swim.
Now, thats a challenge he would never take… ![]()
(when does he do his next tri?)
Funny thing is that when guys like this show up about half the people will think “wow, what a patriotic guy” and the other half will think “wow, what a dork.”
.

A truly amazing thing you do. And I love your self assessment. Keep up the hard work, good luck on Kona.
Well, I think that’s very cool. Good for you. And good luck earning that Kona slot - I’m sure we’ll be seeing you there next year!

I salute you, good luck.
Great job. Would love to see you get to Kona with the flag!!
Dave
Congratulations on a great finish. A 5:46 bike split with tech problems - WOW!!!
Good Luck on training to KONA.
And if the little gift I ordered off of E-Bay had actually come on time, you would have seen Aaron out on the run course with his flag and wearing a green Borat thong. Damn slow postal service.
Aaron,
You will always be my hero! And what you do is amazing.
Ironjack
Yep, Aaron is a proud owner of PC’s. And I’ll echo the sentiment that Aaron is a class act. He’s just one of those genuine nice guys who happens to be a serious endorphin addict. He races damn near every week, sometimes twice. He’s done 3 IM’s and 6 marathons this year, including the Marine Corps marathon the week before his sub-12 IMFL, all while carrying the flag. If his coach can get his racing addiction under control, Aaron should be qualifying for Kona in no time.
If you can find a carbon fiber flagpole, I will donate it for you.
Nice work!
With all the good will flying around this thread (deservingly so) I thought I would put out the following link to the BT thread doing a raffle to raise $ for a new bike for Aaron. His bike was stolen this weekend by some scumbag who cut the chain of his bikerack whie he was at a screeening of “What it takes”. I don’t know of anyone who deserves a little “Thanks” more than Aaron. He’s quite an inspiration to a lot of us. Just an FYI for ST
