Any rumors to this? With all the talk of no more IMFL at PC in 2005, and the recent advent of the 1/2 at Disney, the fact they already have an oly and a marathon, I wonder if Disney will be the new home to IMFL in 2005. Personally would be OK with me.
The only problem is that this model does not fit in with the concept of the other ironman event. IMNA (and many other successful Ironmans) are the biggest event going in their respective small towns. Have a look at Lake Placid, Penticton, Roth, Coeur D’Alene, Panama City, Klagenfurt, Taopo, or Forster for an idea of what I am talking about.
Then again half Ironman Disney seems to have been a success, so the model might be broken when it comes to hosting an Ironman with Mickey Mouse in the wings.
I hope it is not true. I have done IMF in PCB three times and did the disney 1/2. The Disney 1/2 was a let down to me. I am not a big IMNA fan, but the the three IMF’s I did were very well organized and supported.
The Fla 1/2 at disney was not up to their standards in terms of transitions (can you say sand), lack of support on the run (running out of stuff) , race communications, logistics, etc.
Just my two cents.
Rockfish
This is TOTALY MY OPINION - I have no source to base this on, but…
Having been at the 1/2 IM FL it is my impression that the two organizations did not work well together. My feeling is that both are used to being top dog and calling all the shots. Neither wanted to take direction from the other. End result is that although still a very good event, it was not an what one would have expected from an Ironman.
Will this stop IMNA from having a full at Disney - who knows. I’m sure they still made cash on the event, and if that is most important, I’m sure they could do this as a full next year.
I would be a bit warey though. I don’t think these two can play nice and produce something that is in the athletes best interests. I would do an event held by either company in a heart beat, but together, not again next year.
False.
Someone posted on Gordo’s forum (or an email list) that they’d gotten an email from IMNA confirming IM FL in Panana Beach in November 2005.
My mistake. Went back and looked at http://www.coachgordo.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?read=61315 and it does indicate it will be in PC.

Ive worked with the evil mouse on events in the past and this sounds painfully familiar.
