Finished IMF - my first. Had a blast. My time was 12:07:29. Felt great in the swim. Good on the bike. Fine for the first 13.1 of the run, crap for the next 8 miles, very good the last 5. CANNOT WAIT TO DO ANOTHER! The next day I went out and got a sweet tattoo (race related you’ll see). Just got back home (today is wednesday).
I have to unpack and do some other stuff. A full (long) race report will follow - complete with a picture of the new tattoo.
And, I just want to say thanks to everyone that gave me any advice about training and racing. Thank you all.
awww… im jealous. i wanted to sign up for AZ but decided i should finish my first before i sign up for my second. you’ve gotta be psyched… congrats on your finish man!
I know the feeling. Until Saturday I was signed up for 3 (FL, AZ and Moo) without having done 1. No regrets now. I learned a lot in IMFL and and looking forward to improving.
Also my first. Trailed you two – 12:16:31. very psyched. I am signed up for IMAZ and IMFL 2005. Can’t wait. Time to work on my bike and run. I cannot believe how good I felt in the last 2 miles of the marathon – what a complete rush at the finish. I am still buzzing. Tattoo in the works as well.
My first also and I was hugely surprised with my 11:35 finish. What a buzz! Doing AZ in April and may do FL through the community fund next year. My wife was supposed to sign me up on Sunday while I was traveling home, but she missed out.
I relly believe I can cut an hour off for AZ if I figure out my nutrition. I finally found my stomach again around mile 20, but by then my legs were gone. I did manage to negative split by 20 mins on the run and the last 5k was great.
You are a better man then I for signing up for IMFL again. The race was great, PCB was OK, but going there- even from Chicago- was a pain.
I was just ahead of you guys. 11:58 . I can’t believe I went that time considering my training was terrible. Maybe 7 hours a week tops. Just open a new business www.trizilla.com and a new baby! Zoe Maria 3 months old
Congrats to you on your finish. My first go at the IM distance as well. Expectations were tempered by cramping issues on the bike and run. Most important objective became crossing the line. When I came across the finish line with a time of 11:35 I was ecstatic. An IM finish is like no other. Good luck on your races in 2005. I am going to stick to the shorter stuff next year then prepare to go long again in 2006. My family enjoyed my race but not my absence during the preceeding months of training. Trying to regain some balance in my life.
