IMCDA Community Fund Slots

IMCDA Community Fund slots are listed as closed as of an hour ago. Does anyone know if the chosen few all know that they are in the race by the time they close the link? I haven’t heard back yet and I am just wondering if I should start dusting off my camping gear for a trip to Penticton this weekend.

Maybe check with your bank and see if the checks were cashed. (?)

I was told my Melody Givens at IMNA that the spots are given out in real time, and in the order that the mail is opened in the office. So, as soon as they open the mail in the office, if all of your paperwork and payment is in order, then they give you a spot. The cheques are cashed later, and they send you a registration e-mail after all of that. The e-mail contains a link (and a password) to the athlete registration page so that you can register yourself for the event. That’s your confirmation.

I was once told by Melody that all was well…and things were not. Somehow they “lost my check” and did not cash it. I had a photo copy and a certified mail reciept of the mailing (months prior)…the check was so old that the bank would not cash it by the time they deposited it. BUT - at the end of the day I did get a slot and was at IMLP (I forget what year that was - some years ago however).

The reality with community fund spots nowadays (at least for the popular IM’s like MOO and Placid) is that you pretty much need to have your cheque couriered to IMNA minutes after you realize that you didn’t get in via online entry. Almost all of them sell out via community fund nowadays too. Talk about a cash cow.

Checks not cashed yet. My application should have arrived this past Friday or Saturday and the registration link closed on Monday morning…this gives me a little bit of hope which is a very dangerous thing! So the bottom line is that I just need to hope that my checks get cashed before Friday so I can cancel any plans for a whirlwind roadtrip up to IMC in the last ditch effort to get into my first IM event. Though I suppose I am very lucky to have two IM events within driving distance of home (Seattle).

I would suggest just calling Melody at IMNA and asking if you made the cut in time. That’s the quick and easy way to be sure. I would not recommend e-mailing her though, as it sometimes takes a week or more to get a response.
