Imc w50-54

Was there some kind of special group or discount happening yesterday at IM Canada for Female AG 50-54?? There were 90 in this group , I don’t think I have ever seen anywhere near this number in an IM event.

They announced that they had over 500 people racing who were over 50…fricking amazin
.

I’m noticing the same thing even at local sprint tris - more over 50’s. Maybe 50 is the new 30 after all.

Could be that people that have been in the sport for awhile are moving up into the 50-54 and are sticking with it?

Hello Baby Boom generation. Figthing Father Time all the way.

Just so many of them, globally, sees increased numbers in all sorts of things. For example, why do you think the average age for Harley owners is close to 50+?

I know Ann, who won this age group. I wish I was half the man she is. A gifted athlete, and a hottie

25th Anniversary. A lot of people who had done it in prior years came back to compete again this year, hence the larger numbers in older age groups.

Baby boomers still got game.

I find it kind of interesting. Basically that age group was > than10% of the total women in the race 830. I’m 54 & did my 7th IMC on Sunday. I did my 1st IMC in 1993. That year there were only 19 women in my age group. Winner was ~ 12:27 or so. So all these gals have joined the ranks in the last few years. and gotten fast!

When I did it I came up there alone with my 2 kids ( age 4 & 10) & was pretty much looked down upon my the other participants with my kids. With no cell phones I had to go to the public library to find the penticton yellow pages to look up churches & then write them to locate suitable childcare. Times certainly have changed.

Congrats on your 7th IMC!! That’s pretty amazing! Did your kids come back with you this time?

No I went up alone this time though they followed online & called after I finished. They went with me 4 times. I went 3 yrs in a row & finally qualified for IMH in 95. In 98 when they were on there own for the day. Then in 2002 my younger one went with me & brought a friend & they both ran arcoss the finish line with me. My sons have fond memories of Penticton & had lots of fun up there.

Now you see lots of families & kids.

If she is a man why does she (or he) compete in the W50-54 agegroup?

I think he meant “I wish I were half the woman she is.”

It was a joke. Apparently not a very funny one. I’ll stick to my day job…
