IMC Swim

Watching the temps in Penticton I see it will be 39C today…has there ever been a restriction on wetsuits for this race in the past 24 years?

Don’t worry, there will always be a wetsuit swim for the age groupers. IMNA has a thermometer that doesn’t go above the no wetsuit limit. LOL

Lake Okanagan is a very deep lake. In fact it is one of the deepest lakes in the world. Winds turn over the water from top to bottom in the lake on a regular basis and keep the temp at the surface for the most part moderate. There have been instances when a large turnover within a few days of race day have left race day water temps in the very low 60’s and everyone scrambling to find neoprene caps and 2nd and third swim caps!

that is so funny!!!

but yeah, canada will never be non wetsuit, but i wish they would make it non wetsuit for the pro as we have a 15 minutes head start… we are presently swimming without wetsuit in the lake and it s nice…

Joe’s already filled his tanks and double checked his dive gear - he’s fully prepared to find some cold water!

Oh come on - give us fish a chance lets have a non wetsuit swim:-) - Joe we know you are lurking now that Desert is over:-)
.

Since the lake is so large, does it get choppy? In general its a slow swim course right?

Leave me alone, I’m trying to catch up on my sleep!!! See you slugs in August!!

Last year when I arrived in Penticton on Thursday night it was windy and stormy and the lake was REALLY choppy. Friday morning was more of the same. By Saturday and Sunday, the lake was glass. I cannot compare the chop to that of IMCDA this year, but it was going to be a bit of trouble for me, a relatively weak swimmer.

BTW - The lake is not one of the deepest in the world. Its pretty deep, but not ranked in the top 20.

It’s also called Okanagan Lake, not the other way around…

it can be choppy like it can be calm…never know.

as for been a slow swim…not really, it s a normal accurate swim with first guys out in 46-48 minutes…
