IMC Race Report - real real short

I’m pleased. I’ve never been fast but I improved by over 50 minutes from my 2006 time.

2006 15:18:01
2007 14:28:00

14:28:00 is fast for the the genes I was born with.

There is always room for improvement but I’m proud of what I accomplished on Sunday.

That is it.

Karen

good job karen!

Well done. Considering those climbs (Richter and Yellow Lake) getting through the race is an impressive feat. Good job- great race!

Way to go Karen - congrats!

Well, congrats on that then, Karen.

Perhaps the shortest race report of all time, but we get the picture…glad you enjoyed yourself.

Going back in '08?

**That is it. **

Reminders of “MAS*H” and the loudspeaker announcements always ending with “that is all…”

Thanks everyone! I’m smiling big these days.

I arrived in Penticton with full intentions of racing again in 2008. While in the midst of my great day on Sunday I was wondering why I’d want to go back. But… as time passes the urge to go back gets greater. I love that race so I just may be back for #4 in 08. I have the registration papers and until Sept 20 to give them my money.

Be proud, there are people like myself who just admire from afar at all of you truly devoted athletes. Good for you!

Nicely done, Karen. Excellent to hear! Congrats - you must be very pleased indeed.

So was it the new bike?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the new bike! It was way over due for me.

In addition I also love riding into the wind while watching others curse it. It’s amazing what positive energy can do.

Overall the swim was 30 seconds slower while the bike and run were 22 and 28 minutes faster.

Hell yeah! That’s what I’m talking about!

Well done Karen. You finished 2 minutes ahead of me, so I think you probably passed me in the last stages of the run! I think that wind on the run was mean!

Funny thing about that wind. I kept asking the people on the sides if they wouldn’t mind turning their fans down. It was good for a chuckle or two. My other big line on both the bike and the run was “Thanks for coming to my party”. It felt like such a party for me out there.

I hope you enjoyed your race too. It was such a treat not to have to deal with 35C+ heat although I must admit I was FROZEN on the run and it took hours to finally warm up.

Congratulations!

Excellent! To what do you attribute the improvements? just plain old hard work?

After my first, it took 3 months before another IM sounded like a good idea. After the second, it took a couple of days at most. Definitely not a decision you can make mid-race.

I think it was a variety of factors.

First off I had a great training partner this year and we did practically every long swim, bike, and run together.

In addition I had experience on my side. This was IMC #3 (2004 was 20 min. slower than 2006).

Plus although it was windy it also wasn’t super hot. Wind can play a number on your head (if you let it, which I didn’t) but heat can play a real number on your body. So the cool temperatures helped out a ton (although I did FREEZE on the return of the run).

But most of all I think it was because of my new bike. I just bought her six weeks ago. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to race on her but she fits me like a glove and I just LOVE her. She has also given me more confidence as a cyclist and I finally feel like my bike belongs on the rack with all the other beautiful bikes.

I’m pretty certain I’ll be back in '08. My long run, swim, and bike training partner this year will be back along with some friends from the 2006 race so why not me too!

I had an awesome day out there on Sunday and so what ever happens at next years race doesn’t really matter. I don’t have any unfinished business.

Well done, Linda and I were on line following you throughout the day. We were very impressed with your finish time.

Sure seems like a long time ago when your rides were confined to going up and down Iona!

I am sure the bike helped but not as much as consistent training you have been doing these last few years. Way to go!

I don’t know Simon. The bike was huge for my ride and my confidence. Now I just need to get some run confidence back and then… LOOK OUT!!

But in all seriousness, I had a good day and nothing went too wonky on me. The few glitches that I had were delt with quickly and wisely and didn’t get me down. I wouldn’t let them.

Karen, the race report could have been shorter: Came, saw, conquered!

I didn’t realised you raced on the new SL, good job, and to think you wondered about splashing out on it!

The winds on race day at IMC where rather cruel in that the pros where saying that making there way up to and then over Yellow Lake they had no wind or a tail wind!! The wind then shifted and most AG’ers and in particular the BOP folks on the bike had to deal with head winds that got stronger and stronger in the Similkimmin valley ( Paul Huddle loves that word!) as the day wore on. Not fair really!

Great that you had a faster time on the bike.

Congrats, Karen!
50 min PR is awesome.
I think that I saw you heading out on the run. One day, I’m looking forward to meeting you properly.

Julian, as I mentioned above I was on my new bike and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

Next season I’m getting myself a new wetsuit. My arms are very badly chaffed from being so claustraphobic in the swim and swimming with out sleeves. It’s the only part of me that still hurts from Sunday.

If you can believe it I’m actually itching to get back on my bike and go for a long ride. But first it needs so work so it’s heading back to the shop for a short visit. Nothing serious not to worry.
