I had a great time at my first IM this past weekend, but what is up with Pizza for the post race meal. Whatever happened to bagels and bananas? Was I just so out of it that I missed something? They also had pizza at Calgary 70.3…is there some new study indicating that pizza is a good recovery food? That’s the last thing I wanted after crossing the finish line.
where did you ever have bagels and bananas AFTER an Ironman?
It’s my favorite food on earth, but after an IM, my stomach is in no condition to actually enjoy it after slurping down a dozen gels, a gallon of Gatorade and all the other crap.
And Domino’s no less… it was the first time I felt queasy all day.
Cannot believe the wuss’s out there, I could eat butter chicken and KFC if offered. It’s called a *guilty *pleasure guys. Christ on Crackers HTFU!
Nothing better than salty pizza after an IM…cheeze and pepperoni…hmmmmmmm.
They’ve been doing it since at least 2000 when I did my first IMC.
Too bad they got rid of the hot tubs in 2005!
You said pretty much what I was thinking. Wow.
It’s nothing to do with feeling guilty about eating the pizza. The next morning I was gorging on pancakes, sausage, bacon and hash browns at Denny’s of all places. It’s got more to do with being able to stomach greasy pizza after a long race in the heat. But I guess if they’ve been doing it since 2000 someone must be eating it.
I am SOOO glad they had nasty Domino’s pizza there…and soda too! It had been many months since I ate crap like that.
And they did have a tray of bagels just the the left of the pizza. They were cut into quarters…some had PB and others had just jelly.
I think a beer tent would have made the event perfect!
Ton’s of Pizza and Bud Light Lime after L-Ville! The Zaaaa there was great!
And since my season was sponsored by BLL might as well finish strong right!

In order for something to be a guilty pleasure there has to be ‘pleasure’ involved somewhere… dried-out domino’s just doesn’t fit the bill.
We ordered real pizza later on and I gorged myself on it.

*** You’re special***
it may have been the last thing you wanted, but if you had noticed, there was a long line to get pizza when it arrived and they had to limit each person to just one piece because so many people wanted some. People were getting their slice and then getting back in line for a second while still eating their first.

usually potatoe chips are at finish line as well…
IMc few years back had boost and coffee while you sat in the hot tub which was nice…
I like the pizza but usually I’m craving a double quarter pounder with cheese post race(salty)
IMC I’ll go to dennies for breakfast or find a mcdonalds for qpounder… Imlou I had to go across the bridge to indiana to find a mcd’s open nothing downtown louisville was open.
The new angus 1/3 pounders are perfect with some salty fries…florida its backyard burger or waffle house for breakfast eating a many a midnight breakfast at waffle house after doing ironman florida… mmmmmm
I thought it was fine, and scarfed down a piece in the massage tent. A very nice young woman came over to us as we were sitting waiting our turn and asked if we wanted anything. I didn’t think she’d find us pizza…but she brought a box over to us. It hit the spot (and did help stabilize my stomach).
After IMLou 07 Pizza and White Castle

This is where your training failed you.
Swim
Bike
Run
Transitions
Post WO gluttony.
I am not going to tell you how to organize your SBR training, but I do think I can lend a hand with your PWOG.
First, don’t rush into it, you don’t want to overtrain and get injured. Start small and build by 10 % each week. If it helps to visualize cut the pizza into 10 slices and increase the workout one slice each week until you finish the entire pizza.
The first 10 weeks consider just getting the volume in. Time and technique are less important. You just need a base. Once you can get the whole pizza down, you can add a tempo eat once to twice a week. Keep your bpm around 150, but your chewing cadence should be high. Be sure to hydrate.
The week leading up to the race, do NOT taper.
I think if you brick these with your runs next year you will be a stud.
Pizza is the first thing I want when I cross the line. They were actually out of pizza when I finished so my catcher went over to the volunteer’s tent to get me a piece. I then went home and made Papa Murphy’s pizza. Matter of fact, I think pizza in special needs is going to be my new thing
The crappy beef tacos after Boise 70.3 were the worst, I just don’t think you can go wrong with pizza. I think it may come in second behind bacon on the list of wonder foods.

Right on. That was my other pre-race goal!
Finish before the beer tent closed. I made it in '06 and '07!
“Dear Graham, More Hawaiian please. Thx, PoC”
I was puzzled by the Diet Pepsi though. What’s up with that?
My first goal was,
“Gotta Beat the Nun!”
