IMC - need campground advice

Hi,

I’ll be up to volunteer at IMC 2007 (and to sign up for 2008).

I’ll have a car and my tent, and prefer to camp rather than get a hotel.

Any camping advice? What are the nicer campgrounds around Skaha Lake? Is there also some good camping in Okanagan Falls? I guess the ideal would be to find a place that is not stacked like sardines, and, is likely to have space at the last possible moment before the race.

thanks!

25th anniversary race, at a city that is usually sold out anyway…good luck. hopefully you can find something, but i personally wouldn’t get my hopes up…not anywhere close anyway.

Try South Beach Gardens. It’s a big place and the gal was really good to work with. We have a large group staying there and I booked reasonably late in the grand scheme of booking accommodations in Penticton. Good luck! (The website is tough to find… I think it’s www.southbeachgardens.org but I’m not sure.)

If you go to mytelus.com and then go to the phone book type in what you are loking for a number of choices will come up.

Bump for South Beach Gardens, I’ve stayed there many a time. If you have a tent then they will probably be able to accomodate you. There is a pretty lousy campground on the indian reserve just behind the Super Save Gas on the canal that seems to always have space. Don’t plan on sleeping in, not much shade. There is a “tent only” campground next to the canal across the street from Wrights Campground that has good shade but I can’t remember what it’s called. When you come down the hill into town it’s on our left by the airport entrance. If all else fails, enforcement on pull-outs (sleeping in cars) is lax. I wouldn’t recomend tenting on Crown land in the bush due to rattle snakes. Thanks for volunteering and good luck next year!
