IMC Course Changes

I have some questions in case someone has a better memory than I or simply knows the answer. I’ve either attended or raced IMC the last 3 years and I’m racing this year. It appears there is yet another change in transition location and course change around the start/finish area.

First, unless I missed it, the changes aren’t highlighted on the web site but they are on www.ironmap.com. It appears the run turnaround down Lakershore is shorter(?) (at Power) which means they have to extend the course some place else which doesn’t seem to be indicated anywhere. If so, then where did they extend the course?

Second, looks like the Cawston out-and-back now includes Daly Dr. Was that the case last year? It implies the bike start out of transition has changed but I can’t remember what it did last year. I know some years we rode down Lakeshore (eg '05).

Thanks, Chris

the out and back always included a small section of maybe 800m on another road… i think only from 2004-06 was that section missing… but this is very very small…

and i havent seen any change for the run turn around, first one his near the Sicamous

Daly was there last year b/c you only do lakeshore on your biek once. Not sure about the run though.

Note, you don’t do Lakeshore at all on the bike this year. See:

Apparently the swim course has also changed. Also, I don’t believe Power St is at the Sicamus (sp?) so the run appears to be shorter. I know, it’s not a big deal but I like to pace out the first 2miles of the run so I’d like to know beforehand.

Thanks, Chris

I live in Penticton and it seems no one knows the correct answer. Probably have to wait till Friday at the dinner/meeting for the official word.

That’s what I suspected… I greatly appreciate the feedback!!

Thanks! Chris

last year the run course turn round was just past power street with the turn in OK falls being at the far end of christies beach rather than 3/4 of away along. guess that is the same again but will be confirmed at the race brief ether way it will be the right distance.

Does it really matter? The bike is 180 km and the run is 26.2 miles. If you’re not going to be first there shouid be someone in front of you to follow.

The worst change of all is that Steve King will not be announcing again this year. :frowning: He is really amazing.

I just like to scope things out pretty thoroughly in plenty of time before the race. Obviously it matters to me or I woudn’t have bothered to post the questions. If it doesn’t matter to you then please feel free to ignore the thread.

Thanks, Chris

From the ironmap.com website: “Penticton Ironmap and Spectator Guide is a full-colour double-sided guide and topographic map that is an invaluable aid to spectators and competitors alike. Based on the August 29, 2004 Ironman Canada course…”

I’d believe what NAS and WTC have currently posted before I’d get worked up about ironmap.com. Just my $.02

FYI, NAS web site and www.ironmap.com say the same thing. The difference is that the NAS web site doesn’t say there are specific changes this year where the ironmap web site does.

Honestly, I’m just interested in hearing feedback from someone who knows the answer. If you don’t know the answer then, please, I wouldn’t worry about posting.

Thanks, Chris
