IMAZ swim (2)

what is the likely water temp. in April? Is a full sleeve wet suit needed?

You’ll want to wear a full, just so you don’t contact floating dead animals, used condoms, etc. (Things my friend swam into during a race there a couple years ago – not that it’s going to stop me from swimming there, though!)

Lots of people wore sleeveless suits last year. I wore a full-sleeved T1 and was getting a bit warm on the return leg…

Tempe Town Lake will be in the mid to high 60’s, so bring your westsuit!

No sleeves here last year, very comfortable I thought.

Fullsuits are faster than sleeve less. If you have a fullsuit use it.

I just did SOMA, as did DD and cdw, and others. I found the lake quite pleasant, all considered. I just needed to stay away from all the other swimmers. I think I bujped into more swimmers there than any tri since my first few.

Did the race last year with a full suit but felt a sleeveless would have been ok. Found the water temp and cleanliness just fine.

Don’t worry about the swim.

Last year I think the water temp from Thursday to Race day increased about 10 degrees; I swam the friday before with full wetsuit and had numb hands and feet. I was concerned enough about the cold temp that I bought a hood to wear for race day- mind you I have very low body fat for insulation and am a complete wimp when it comes to dealing with the cold. By race morning the water temp was fine, I didn’t wear the hood and was comfortable in a full wetsuit.
