IMAZ cancelled after this year event

We have been wondering about how to get the bike in the bag to the hotel from the Cozumel airport, since Uber XL doesn’t seem to be an option.

Taxis + shuttles exist, but none seems to be big enough for a bike bag.

There are hundreds of taxis, both vans/ suvs that can.

everyone else got there bike to and from so should be no issue.

I used to coach a group of Mormons in Gilbert. I convinced them all to go to IMNZ since even though it was a Sunday race there it was Saturday here.

Some mental gymnastics for all and iirc 4 of the 5 I was coaching went to race

Just walk outside, there will be a ton of vans waiting for triathletes. The entire island caters to the event, it’s very easy to get around. You don’t even have to worry about booking ferry or island transportation ahead of time. Heck my hotel wasn’t a “host” venue but we had so many athletes they shuttled us all to T1 race morning for $10 USD a head.

Now 90% sold out for AZ

Just out of interest, did you see the numbers for the younger age groups at Western Sydney this last weekend? There were weak moustaches all over the place. Doesn’t look like that’s a race that’s in danger of aging out.

What do you think that means? 2000 people or 1500?

I can assure you that didn’t work. They just decided to race on a Sunday.

It doesn’t mean a damn thing. We make up shit like this in the music industry too.

Well, thinking about it they can’t be totally dishonest in their advertising if someone wanted to spend some money on a lawsuit.

Maybe they can justify it by saying it’s 90% sold out in terms of the registration time line? If 30 days represented 10% of the sales period, 90% sold out could mean it’s been for sale for ~270 days?

I’ve used far less logical thinking to advertise essentially the same thing so yeah that’d work.

You know, I’ve sworn off full distance events since I have my finish, but given this is the last time, I am so tempted.

Haha, I love it! Parlor donuts on me if you’re in.

How are you guys “selling” the Ironman during holidays arguments or is it just always a short term stay? My wife is a hard no on the idea of combining Ironman with holidays.

It was easy. I did IMAZ in 2012. My son had the full week of Thanksgiving off from school. My wife and son flew into Phoenix on Monday (day after the race). We then went to Flagstaff for three days to see the GC. We rode the Polar Express to the North Pole while we were there which my then 7 year old son thought was the coolest thing imaginable. Thanksgiving morning we drove to Vegas, where we met up with my wife’s parents who flew in the same day, and spent a few days there.

??? It’s pretty easy it goes like this usually.

Want to go to Los Cabo’s for 9 days , I do a half there and get a spot for worlds in New Zealand for next year.

Sure.

ok.

than we got a trip 9 days in Mexico and 16 days in newzealand . She is very happy about it and I am very happy about it.

The bigger claim of false advertising is the water in the ad’s picture. Tempe Towne “Lake” is nothing that blue and beautiful. It’s a frigid, skanky cesspool I would never swim in again.

The time they canceled the swim the night before the 70.3 in 2022 is the only time I’ve been glad for a swim to be canceled. I was so happy not to get in that thing :joy:

Competing in IMAZ the weekend before Thanksgiving allowed me to relax that week with our daughter on school break. It also meant that I could essentially eat anything on Thanksgiving without feeling guilty. And what made my wife very happy was that my training was extremely light almost optional. So training did not get in the way of spending time with family.

Ya, that’s tough. It’s definitely a long shot, but if the wife and kids volunteer (run course!) they really do have a great time. But it doesn’t sound all that great until they do it.

I haven’t tried this, but I suppose you could book her some spa/massage/pedicure type stuff.

When we went to New Zealand, we went a few days before and a stayed a few days after, which meant when we came home Christmas was already days away. That was a little stressful in the sense that we really didn’t have the full Christmas spirit last year. So I hear the concern.
