Don’t let Dave kid you… it’s just that most people on this forum don’t lik to use the ’ between the I & the M when they are saying I’M Mooing, or I’M Canada, or I’M Hawaii, which, on the surface seem like crazy things to by saying anyway.
There’s also 1/2IM or HIM which is 1/2 an IM, ‘Oly’ or Olympic distance which is swim:1500m, bike 25 miles, run 6.2 miles, and sprint distance which is about 1/2 of a Olympic, 400-800yd swim ,12mi bike,3 mi run. Local sprint races are a great way to find out if you like the sport and don’t require much training to complete. You learn a lot from doing a few sprint races.
Trainers:
wind trainers use a fan to create resistance, smooth but very noisey when riding hard.
mag trainers use a magnet for resistance and a control lever to change resistance, smooth and not noisey, some have a power meter to tell you how hard you are working.
fluid trainers use a paddle wheel in a fluid, not noisey but require more power than real outdoor riding. Change resistance by changing gear.
computrainer: great if you have $1300 burning a hole in your pocket. Look up the computrainer website.
