IM Wisconsin Online Tool / Guide

Whats up to everyone competing in Ironman Wisconsin in a little under 2 weeks.

I made this race prediction/location tool to help your spectators know where your at, and for you to analyze your predicted performance… check it out at : http://www.uwtriathlon.com/myironman

  • if there is interest - I may produce this tool for all iron-distance races.

That is great. Well done. I’d love to see that for other races!

That´s awesome!!!

Thanks

Kelly, that is the coolest. I have been telling all my friends about it. I even sent the link to my family. Thanks.

Nice tool…

I bet if the posters above knew you were a guy, they wouldn’t have shown so much vigor.

Best of luck in your RAAM training…

Hey Kelly, that’s a really neat tool. I would definitely check it out for other races as well. I also really like that animated bike course map that you guys have on the uwtri site. That’s really nifty.

Hey, you’re in Madison, right? What’s the general feeling of the community towards the race? All the recent talk about the road at Ironman Canada being littered with roofing tacks has got me worried…

Thanks again,
-Colin

That is cool!

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone.

I live in madison and every now and then I hear about someone having problems on the IM course. I think it was two years ago when there were reports of tacks on the road at Ironman Wisconsin, and also a farmer who sent his cattle across the road in front of the pros. Last year there was definitely more pressure between the cyclists and rural communities. There were meetings held to determine what to do with all the out of control cyclists. Also, a lot of communities were very angry over the road graffitti. This summer, there hasn’t been any such meetings (or I haven’t heard of them), and most of the graffitti was cleaned up on the roads. The IM course was even changed around the verona area to prevent conflict with local business owners. But, who knows if someone will vent some bent up frustration on ironman day. I wouldn’t be worried about it, but just be aware that their might be some problems. I know the IM director will be checking the course thoroughly before the race to make sure that there isn’t anything to hold anyone up.

I was out riding the course last weekend and there were signs all over saying “Don’t Paint on the Roads. IMNA.” It was evident that fresh chipseal had been layed over paint on Old Sauk Pass and a few other places.

I didn’t get a bad vibe from many people. Most of the drivers were really considerate. Hopefully that continues on race day.

I just found www.ironmanwireless.com which provides real-time updates during the race to a text message/email account. Might be cool if you could integrate that into your program somehow so that ETAs could be updated (manually??) throughout the day.

That’s really great!

Two things:

  1. It would be better to have the swim pace as minutes/100 yards (or meters).

  2. Use of the word MyIronman is probably a trademark infrigement.

  • that ironmanwireless service is really neat. That would be great to add that live information to the site, but I don’t think ironman would give me access to their database… or atleast without giving them some major $$$.

  • I thought about the name infringement MyIronman , I hope since the service is free, and run by a college student that it won’t matter… but if they ask me, I’ll change the name.

I’m looking for some more tips for the “Quick Tips” section … if anyone has any to share - please let me know.

Thanks,

Kelly
