The earlier post on what was going on at IM moo can be summed up below. The real problem is that the cheeze heads (ooh I’m a racist) can’t get home to their TV’s quick enough. Too bad it’s just a hobby. Email this wanker and see if she can perhaps get the idea that what we spend in the area might generate a few tax dollars.
E-Mail from Village President
Subject: Bicycling on the west end of Dane County
Hello to the Governor, County Exec. Kathleen Falk, Senator
Erpenbach, Senator Feingold, Rep. Travis, Rep. Baldwin, and Dane
County Supervisors -Wendt and Hitzemann!
We have been having a real problem with groups of bike racer
(groups) over taking our area and the roads! Leaders from the
Townships of Berry, Mazo, Vermont, Black Earth, Cross Plains
and the village of Black Earth have expressed concerns to the
Dane County Sheriff’s office. But we need more help then they can
give us. Laws need to be changed or understood better. Seems
the biker has alot more rights then the people who are paying for
insurance, license plates and the roads we drive on!
Next Monday night there is a meeting at the Vermont Town Hall
and I have been asked to go and I really want you to come to the
meeting!
These people are living through this all the time and they need your
help! They need to be heard by someone who can make a
difference!
I have an idea… Charge them a fee! Why can’t we put license
plates on bikes. That way we can make them accountable for
breaking the law! When they break the law then we can call the
police and have a way to know who it is! So many of these groups
of bikers come into our village and /or townships and take over the
roads! This is where we live! How would they feel if we take over in
their town or village? They have no regard the people that live here
or their property. The state and county need money and this is a
major problem. Charging them a GOOD healthy fee for a license
plate would help with some of the sort fall in the county and state
budget!
After all this is a hobby!
Please come to the meeting on July 12 at 7:30 p.m.!
Something needs to be done and it has to start some place!

Umm…you are like 10 days late with your post. They already had the meeting, cooler heads prevailed, and Ms Poast backtracked quite a bit. There have been plenty of threads on this subject here and elsewhere that are more current, so you may want to edit yoru post.
I grew up in the area (Verona) and I visit my parents four times a year. As a kid, I remember having to buy a yearly “bike license” which was a sticker that went on the back of my bike (a Schwinn Varsity). I don’t recall if it was required or just so the police could possibly ID your bike if it were stolen. I think it was $5 or $8 or something small like that.
My last visit was a month or so ago, and I saw large groups riding two or three abreast on roads like Whalen and Fish Hatch. Some went single file as I came up behind in my car, but most did not. These are very hilly roads, I was very surprised at this behavior. If you did that around here (Indiana) you’d probably get killed.
Well since I don’t live there and she doesn’t give a single concrete example of what she is talking about my response would be to get a life!
“real problem with groups of bike racer (groups) over taking our area and the roads” I am on a bike you are in car and I overtake the road and area… I see
" Seems the biker has alot more rights then the people who are paying for insurance, license plates and the roads we drive on! " Same rights and I bet those dirty little bikes also own cars and pay the same insurance, plates etc and drive on those roads too!
"These people are living through this all the time and they need your help! " Give me a break!
" I have an idea… Charge them a fee! Why can’t we put license plates on bikes. That way we can make them accountable for breaking the law!" Perfect, very insightful and well thought out, brilliant!
“So many of these groups of bikers come into our village and /or townships and take over the roads! This is where we live! How would they feel if we take over in their town or village?” I personally invite her to ride her bike through my neighborhood (“village”) anytime. I much prefer intimidating cyclist with my big ol jeep then just another hybrid car! (joke! Joke! JOKE!)
“The state and county need money and this is a major problem.” I don’t live there and bet I can come up with 10 problems way more improtant than this
"Charging them a GOOD healthy fee for a license plate would help with some of the sort fall in the county and state budget! " Ah, now you are on to something a $20 or even $50 fee times a few hundred riders would surely make a big contribution to your budget.
This letter of hers was posted everywhere about three weeks ago. Everyone has been trying to mend fences and the ire is just starting to die down.
Ms. Poast has actually been quite reasonable and willing to reach compromise here. And, apparently, she has had her share of people who called or sent her mail with all kinds of venomous messages.
So please don’t call her! No good can come from that. People who actually are involved with the local groups and citizens are trying to work this out.
Thanks for the update on the meeting for those of us who don’t live there. My reply still stands, her stance is rediculous and solutions even more so. I day of a trooper or sherriff doing a little PR on the side of the road would work I bet and if it didnt’ a day of handing out tickets for violating laws I am sure that already exist would bring it to an end.
at this point I am fed up and disgusted with any a holes who have to drive every where and whine and complain when they have to wait a second longer in their damn cars because some cyclists are riding…bfd…
Actually in this case, a lot of the fault belongs to the bikers…look at the old threads. Blowing throuhg stop signs in town, riding four abreast, littering, peeing on people’s lawns, etc…not good PR.
naturally…the damn cyclists dont bother to obey traffic laws…yep can’t argue with you on that one…however, those of us who do obey the traffic laws and still get hastled to death by motorists who have to get to their donut shop in a hurry…I still say f …em…
I think there are some races and rides that go through black earth. This is aimed more towards cycling groups rather than triathletes riding the course. Ive ridden the course several times and there is barely any traffic, must be isolated incidents in some of the small towns. I have heard of cyclists getting tickets out there.
It was centered around the horribly hilly hundreds and the mammoth ride that took place in early June. Apparently the county knew what was going on and didn’t tell the surrounding communities the events would take place.
Peeing in someone’s yard, and littering is inexcusable.
Typically I would agree that riding single file is the way to go, but in the case of the horribly hilly hundreds 700 cyclist started at one time. So for about the first 10 miles or so riding single file was not possible. I would think they’re going to stagger the starts next year in smaller groups.
At the Horribly Hilly, I peed in the woods out in the middle of BFE. There are so few yards, as I’m sure you’re aware, that taking a piss in one of them would be a knuckle headed thing to do. I have no issues with watering the plants.
Actually, the story my friend (who lives in the middle of this mess) related, was someone going outside and finding a cyclist peeing on their GARAGE! I’m just a dumb hick from Iowa, but even I know not to pee on a garage (unless it’s my own! ).
Personally, to answer your question, when the urge hits I wait for one of those corn-field-entrance roads and just pull off and pee in the weeds. It’s safe because I’m off the road and I don’t offend anyone because I’m out of sight.
It lives up to the name that is for sure. Its a good time and its well supported. Living here in the flat lands makes it difficult to get some good hill work in. Sheridan rd. is too flat…
I’m doing it again next year if they have it but I’ll actually go up to Kettle Moraine and do a little more prep then I did this year (which was none)
