IM should have a 13 hour time limit

To steal a comment I made from another thread…

13 hours seems like a reasonable amount to time for an IM cut-off to make people earn those medals and T-shirts.

I think it should be around 8 inches.

Probably no reason for me to walk under this bridge and feed this thing. . .

So, that would mean 70% of the women’s field at IM CdA would have DNF’ed.

. . . not that I disagree that the cutoff should be somewhat more stringent.

No problems as long as you don’t drug test me ;).

the 4 and 5 inchers work harder…the fact that they exist actually makes yours look bigger in comparison so what do you care?

Better get your flame suit on with all the 16hour+ people that have migrated over here from BT lately you are going to not get much joy out of this :sunglasses:

I am just waiting for R10C to chime in as he has espoused this for a long time. I tend to agree with you but 13hrs would be a bit tough maybe 15 for the men and 16 for the women might be a bit fairer.

What would your cut-off be for a 1/2 iron?

If we’re going to feed this bullshit thread, we should at least do it creatively.

Here’s an idea for the WTC-eliminate the 17hr cutoff completely, BUT impose a $100 penalty for every hour above 10 for each finisher.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Mr Trois,

As Sam Kinison would say…OOOOOOOHHHHHHH…OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH…OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH…!!!

hahahaha…excellent

why does it matter what the cut off is. Shouldn’t your only worry be those ahead of you? Why do you care what the 17 hour IMers are doing?

I think they actually have it harder. They are out there much longer. Usually in the hottest part of the day and all the water, sponges are gone by the time they get there. Not to mention when they cross the line, the crumb of bread that is left on the post race food table is just plain degrading to them.

Because it is an IM it is supposed to be hard, you should at least have to run some of the marathon. I would never suggest something as draconian as 13hrs but I think 15hrs for the men and 16 for the womens would be fair.

your technological prowess is awesome.

Fuck - make it 5:30 and you can have the t-shirt and medal from that one. Make it 5 and you can have them all.
It’s not about me. its about the concept of the event.

It might also have the benefit of getting a company like WTC out of the sport.

Boy, I hope you age gracefully.

5:58:50! HAHHAHAHAHAHAH, holy sh*t you are slow!!!

Ouch, this whole internet thing can really be a pain sometimes…

I think the current state of IM cutoff is fine. The midnight thing is great. The most fun I have had associated with IM is hanging around the finish line at midnight with a beer in my hand watching the last finishers come in.

Maybe I could support starting a little later, the whole getting up before 5 am thing is a drag. Maybe 8 am start and keep midnight?

I’m fairly certain with this 1/2 ironman time posted above, your full would be over 13. Are you saying you need to be excluded from the experience of an Ironman?

This is how it shall be when I become the official Czar of the Triathlon world. It ends up only being an hour tighter cut-off, but aesthetically I like the symmetry of starting at the typical opening workday hour and keeping the even multiples of 8/16/24. It’s like, cosmically perfect, dude.

Anything under 15 hours sounds a bit unfair for anyone who is not a perfectly healthy male in his 20’s (like me), however anything over that seems to be a bit lax for anyone who is able-bodied. What I’d like to see though is more races that give out a special award for hitting a difficult time goal that only X% usually get, that way there is something to strive for besides a Kona slot but might be easier for some to achieve. We have a local run where if you break 60 min. (70 for women) for a 15k, you get a special mug, and I was super excited to get one this year.

that’s a good idea
.

I have also petitioned all local 5K’s to have a 20 minute time limit.

We don’t need all those people out on the streets for 30-40 minutes. They can keep their charitable entries and shove em…
