IM race tubular anxiety

I am doing my first IM in a few weeks…after 10+ years of tri racing.

I have a set of tubular race wheels, but I have some concerns about flatting and changing it. I have changed the front once, using tape rather than glue, but the rear tire remains glued on.

I have a good set of training wheels (clinchers) that I have used all year. I have not used my race wheels all year, although I inspected them last night and they are good to go. I am confident in changing a clincher with no problems, less so on the tubie.

I am not competing for a Kona spot or top ag placing, but want to finish in the 11- 12 hour range. Since it is my first, and posibly last IM, I don’t want the day blown because of a mechanical issue I cannot fix.

My choice is to stick with what I’ve used and am comfortable with and use the training wheel’s OR use the tubular race wheels, bring a cartridge of pit stop and a spare tubie (and tape).

What say you?

i say you should go clincher
.

By not keeping up with your “race” wheels, you’ve actually already answered your question.

Run your everyday wheels and stop worrying.

Sell those unused race wheels…use the clinchers and free your mind…
