I'm questioning Erg Mode data on the CompuTrainer

For the past 8 weeks I have been stuck inside on the CompuTrainer - this is my 2nd season on the CT and I regard myself as a fairly experienced user.

Lately, when riding in Erg Mode, after proper calibration (several times to be sure) I have observed that the MPH and Distance numbers seem quite…shall I say…generous. I noticed during a recovery period on my ride this morning that I was pedaling @ 90 RPMs, 180 Watts and the CT is reporting that I’m moving @ 23-24 MPH. Seems high to me. No way was I putting forth the effort to move that fast along a road.

Like I said, I’m no stranger to calibration, I do it properly and at the right time and sometimes do it several times during a ride to be sure. Also, I have my Weight set at my body weight + the estimated weight of my bike (conservatively). What might I be missing?

Anyone else notice high readings on MPH and Distance ridden…specifically in Erg Mode?

MPH and distance are meaningless in ERG mode. It’s strictly a function of what gear you are in. Am I misunderstanding your question? Drop down into the small ring and your wattage will stay the same but your speed will drop. The CT is controlling wattage independent of speed.

Go out and get some ERG VIDEOs!!! You will NEVER ride in ERG mode again.

+1 on the Ergvideos. Greatest indoor training invention since the fan, although technically they are “riding in ERG mode”.
