IM Pro Series 2024

Was it? I can’t help thinking that if it was then I would’ve watched more than one, which I didn’t. I was only interested in IM.

Then again I don’t care who wins the IM series, I just like watching the races as one day events and the championship.

Which one did you watch?

Btw IAM i wrong in thinkink last years price purse was 375 k ?

London.

Saw the lowlights of San Fran and post race interviews for Dubai.

Iirc I watched Kona, Nice, Frankfurt, Tallinn, Oceanside. Dipped my toe into a couple of other livestreams.

FWIW I’m not saying I prefer the IM commentary, perhaps I’m just numb to the inane motormouthing. Just that it wasn’t so good on PTO that I wanted to watch any of their races.

No, think it was. This year $500k (ie $250k W and $250k M). And that increased purse plus an element of the IM Pro Series money means the PTO has elevated this championship to Diamond tier (from Platinum).
The albeit marginal effect of that is that, when combined with the effect of the highest ever strength of field for the women (SOF, = 98.72), the PTO Ranking scores will be likely the highest ever.
At the top end this matters in the end of year PTO Rankings:

  • to Derron who with a win would go ahead of Gentle ($90k v $80k)
  • to Simmonds who will gain two places to #7 ($45 rather than $35) if she can manage #6 or better and is ahead of Findlay.

Eh, for how much Moritz and Co spend on broadcast, it needs to be wayyyyy better. Also, Knibb is a known commodity. Even van Riel is know, but I’m not certain he was a lock.

it’s well deserved to be the highest strength of field score with such prize money and I guess very close with the Dubai race Strenght of filed score which I seem to remember was 98.5 ?
And also to be fair while from an environmental point of view new Zealand is even worse than Kona
From a location point it’s as good it’s a beautifulas it gets ,and will beat any setting of the t100 races this year. But still it’s just crazy to have worlds so far away. To where most triathletes live from an environmental aspect.

It’s not my money, so I only compare the products. And the T100 broadcast product is much ahead of the IM broadcast product.

The whole sport is sponsored by tourism, increasing tourist volume at times and places when volumes are otherwise low.

You’ll need to tackle this principle before criticising travel to events from an environmental point of view.

Obviously this is all personal opinion, but I don’t think the T100 broadcast is that much better. Shorter courses with multi-laps across the disciplines makes it easier to show more athletes, and I prefer the commentators of the T100 series. That’s about the only things I find superior.

Having said that, the PTO/Moritz came out all guns blazing about how innovative and spectacular the broadcast will be when they first came on the scene. Years later, it’s a slightly better viewing experience than Ironman… not sure that’s something to celebrate out loud.

And how about the advert to content ratio?

Every second counts …
It’s like saying you only need to focus on key sessions in training …

I said: "No way will 19000 do it @dcpinsonn "
Was wrong; apologies: Barnaby won with just over 19,000 (a loss of 40 minutes on the maximum available) NB cf Matthews on 20,761. That will take some beating for the years that the IM Pro Series runs.
2024 has been a ‘special year’ with Taupo so late that those racing the October IMWC can completely recover for the 70.3WC. Last year 70.3WC was in August and next year in early November (4 weeks after Kona).

Ironman article, taking “a look at how Kat Matthews and Gregory Barnaby earned their IRONMAN Pro Series Championship crowns.”
