IM Prep. 2 races three weeks out

Just wanted some feedback on what you guys thought about the weekend I have planned three weeks out from IM Wisc.?

Background: Substantial base, IM Brazil 5 months ago. I do recover reasonably fast.

Sat. Half IM Race
Strategy: Swim moderate, bike 5 beats into race pace, run race pace building for the entire 13 miles.

Sun. Sprint
Strategy: Swim fast, bike race pace, run hard.

I know two races may seem excessive but they both have specific workout strategies. I am on a recovery week going into the weekend. I have never tried this but I guess we all have to try new things to see what works. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you trying to show off?

I don’t see how a 5 hour race, followed by another race will help your IM. If you have a substantial base, I don’t think an extra 5 hours of racing will help you.

Do some intervals on the track or something.

Sounds like a decent speed workout prep for the IM…

Im doing the opposite:

2mile swim…easy to moderate
90 mile ride…again easy to moderate
2.5 hour run…easy.

Should be a good 10 hour workout…Grand Finally before the taper…I dont know what Im going to do with myself during the taper…eat and get fat so I float better!!

I think I am going to have to add a rubber room to my house, just for the purpose of tapering. Lock myself in there with a straight jacket. I know my wife wouldn’t mind locking my moddy ass away. LOL

I’ve got nearly the same race schedule, doing a sprint Saturday and Oly distance Sunday. That leaves three weeks of taper to IM Wisconsin. Race season is short in Wisconsin – enjoy it while you can.
