IM NYC Logistics questions

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to see if anyone has gotten any info on the logistics for IM NYC. I am signed up for the race and really looking forward to it but there are still a lot of unanswered questions on how they will be running the race. If anyone knows some of these answers that would be great.

  1. The site mentions ferrying your gear to transition from 39th st for mandatory check in. Will there be access directly from Fort Lee, NJ?

  2. They are ferrying athletes to the swim start on race morning will there be parking at the ferry dock or should spectators drop us off and drive back over to transition. Is there parking in Ft Lee near transition?

  3. Since they are ferrying to the swim start, what is the start like? If there is current it might be tough to keep everyone in place for a mass start. Are they doing a jump off the ferry like Alcatraz?

  4. Will there be transport for spectators from transition to the finish line?

  5. Have they decided where everything will be staged? Where is the athlete village, mandatory meetings, awards ceremony, etc. I did IM Arizona last year and they had a pretty substantial area set up for all of these things and I was wondering where they could possibly do this in NY/NJ.

Any answers are greatly appreciated!! Happy training to all those registered

I don’t know the answers to your tri-related questions but I’ve lived in Northern NJ for most of my life and now live in NYC. If you have any general questions about the area, PM me.

it’s very funny that u signed up for imnj really not having any idea about how bad the race will be but, nonetheless, are very excited about it. there’s no way that spectators will be able to drive anywhere near the transition areas. there’s just 1 narrow road in there and nowhere to park. you are nuts if you think the race will be ferrying spectators from the transition area that they won’t have access to to manhattan. your best bet is to tell your friends and family to catch a matinee on or off broadway and to meet you on the uws at your projected finish time.

also, how did you miss the part about no mass start? it’s waves but they haven’t said if noodles will be allowed like they are in their other race in the hudson.

Thanks MartinP for the offer but I do have some idea of what the area is like. I appreciate the offer though.

I actually live in Pennsylvania so I am somewhat familiar with the area as I do cross the GW Bridge regularly to see clients. I figured they had to have some idea on how they would handle this logistically. They do mention using the ferries for multiple things like the mandatory gear check ins and race morning so I thought maybe they would use them elsewhere as well.

I didn’t see anything on the site about wave starts but I have NO problem with that. I’ve done the mass start thing and it is just pure mayhem

Hopefully WTC will give us some of these answers soon so we can make our plans.

Is NYC Nautica tri a 5150 WTC race? Doubt it, but I’m sure the race will be awesome just like every other WTC IM, I think they do a great job of putting on world class races

You should consult the website…most of these issues are addressed if not answered.

I have been through the whole site and read all of the FAQ’s and general information and these questions are not answered on the site. Unfortunately the site just says details coming soon in a lot of places where these things would be answered.

That is pretty much the point…if the site says “details coming soon” how would someone here know more about how the ferries are going to work, etc.? Check the site and if the questions aren’t answered it is because there is no answer yet.

But there is only one year left to figure all of this stuff out.

Btw, have you seen a forecast yet?
