Curious as to if anyone has an “inside scoop” on the potential new, SE-based IM race next year as alluded to by IMNA. Specifically, what time of year? With the nuking of Utah, my assumption would be a Spring/Early summer race (May?) esp. as June - November are covered with one race each.
Anyone else know better or different?
If past events are any indication, they will schedule it for the Fall in an attempt to siphon off racers from the Duke Blue Devil and the Great Floridian.
Myrtle Beach would have been a logical replacement for Florida - a flat, fast course in a large resort community. But it looks like Florida is back on for next year.
My guess would be IMFL moving either to NC/SC or the Orlando area for 2005. The PCBTDC isn’t going to directly fund IMFL anymore, and I’m not sure how long the coalition that is funding the possible 2004 race can hold itself together.
From what I’ve heard, November’s too cold for NC/SC. Be interesting to see what dates they do come up with for that.
