I registered right at 8AM Pacific. Only 1500 general entry slots. Doesn’t look like Active was accepting any more registrations by the time I finished filling out mine.
I’m in. Registered as soon as it opened
Just been with a couple of mates who got in first go. Then they tried to enter another mate and got locked out. They decided to wait 20 mins (the time limit given to put your entry in) and got him in at 1.20pm on the dot. Then they got locked out again when trying to enter someone else. Waited another 20 mins and got in again.
It seems they were releasing a certain number of slots every 20 min and once that number got reached they locked the system.
Crazy stuff.
This is what the Active registration page says now:
“General entry for the 2012 Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship Melbourne event is now sold out. Congratulations to the athletes who registered today. We will see you in Melbourne on March 25, 2012.”
Game. Set. Match.
Yup, my wife was locked out initially. 20 minutes on the dot, we refreshed the page and she got in. Phew! Would have sucked if I got in and she didn’t.
Got in… Entered right on the dot of 1pm local time.
Finally an Ironman in my home town…!
i’m in.
peggy
And so continues the mass marketing of triathlon as a leisure product. Thank god transitions is down so I don’t have to listen to folk go on about how they are going to do port, busso and Melbourne as if this is some kind of achievement.
This is primarily done by folk going plus 11:30 who get their kicks having people look at them and say come on when they are walk running their way to a 4:30 plus marathon.
I accept that this look at me crowd is what IM has become thank god I’m not part of it
that was quick! sold out in 5mins. DARN!
I’m in
Should be interesting.

Hey, thanks for the input! Have a nice day!
Besides, not me! I hope to God NOBODY is looking at me by the time I’m finishing my 5:30+ marathon … ewwww …
Anyway, I am in. Soooo happy because of the early sell-out, whacko! Glad all of you made it and especially those doing it with others.
think about somebody other than yourself. The comments are in reference to the I’m going to do Port Busso and Melbourne so I can feel like a hero. These are the people driving the demand and making it hard for other folk to get the chance to do one.
I don’t care one way or the other I just don’t understand why somebody would do Port and Melbourne in plus 12 hours I don’t know. I understand why they would do one and maybe do it every year.
These are the same folk who won’t do a local 5 K or OD tri because thye think doing an IM in 13 hours is a more athletic achievment than doing a sub 40 min 10K
I’m in. Wanted my first IM to be one where I would have a decent support crew, and having a race on my doorstep makes that a nice reality.
Glad I rushed home though to get registered at 1pm on the dot!

Although it would appear that these people kicked your ass at the being organised enough to be at the PC at the right time to enter a race they wanted to do. So really, for IM training then there’s not a lot of point in doing local 5km run races. So you wouldn’t see them there. They’ll be out training for the race they got into. Of course I’m sure you could still go and crew for the race…
Duncan last thing first, the sub 20 min 5 K crowd who also do triathlon training maybe do an IM once a year or once every two years will beat most of the look at me do two IM within a month in 12-13 hours.
Go out and run 2 to three times per week at 9 min miles and laugh at the 17 min 5 K guy.
For the record I had no intention of doing IM melbourne and am glad not to be there

Nah, I’m IM training, so I only do one long run a week. It’s all about the bike. And of course you should laugh at sub 17m 5k runners, they all wear the silly vests and boxer shorts with their bits flapping about.
So if you didn’t intend to enter, I’m fascinated by your agression towards those that have entered, well according to you anyway. Seems an astonishing waste of energy for what I assume to be someone training at a high level.
I’m in. Hoping to break 14 hours for the first time.
Ken, crack a smile.

Um, does it really matter if it’s up or down? Don’t like the place? Click elsewhere, problem solved. ![]()
Wow Otter, does this mean you are going to train for this one. Inspired by the threat of in-shop competition.
BTW, I’m in too - my first IM
