IM Louisville Swim Prep

Well my crazy coach decided that my swimming wasn’t getting better fast enough and that I really needed to start getting ready for the Ohio river in August… so he called down to my swimming pool (the ymca in Lexington) and had them raise the temperature in the pool to 90 for my morning swim workout.

When I got to the office I sent him a note bitching about it a little bit. I must have irritated him because when I got back to the pool at lunch time they had gone ahead and raised the temp on up to 95.

45 minutes of laps in a 95 degree pool is some tough going.

That is the last time I complain about a workout.

That’s all well and good but the water temp for IMlou won’t be in the 90’s
.

I’m sure there are/were a bunch of pissed off patrons at the Lexington YMCA. This guy must have some pull to get a YMCA to raise their pool temps by nearly 20 degrees.

It was a joke (that he called in)

There was something wrong with the heater and it was obviously out of control.

Yea, I did the first IMKY and the water was certainly no warner than your typical YMCA which runs 82-84(??). The hardest thing to train for is the mental challenge of swimming and swimming and swimming upstream. It feels like you’re not moving until you make the turn. Unless they change the time trial start, realize that you’re lilely going to be swimming on your own. There’s no seeded start (again, unless they changed this). The start is based on when you get there that morning. So you have all different levels and abilities starting near each other. Someone posted last time on this to stay near the shore going up and out in the middle coming down. Not sure if that helps. I swam 1:06 and normally swim 1:03’ish @ IMFL w wetsuit and drafting.

Ha you and I swim in the same pool! I got in yesterday and it was 92. I asked the lifeguard what was up and he just kinda stared at me. I had just run 13 and was doing a short swim to “cool off”. I got 800 in and decided that it didn’t have that cooling off effect and essentially bailed on the workout. I am going back today in hopes of it being a little cooler. I did louisville in 2007 and the pool was way hotter than that…brought back some fun memories of the ohio though.
