Im lou wheel selection?

what should i use…

i own zip 404s
i own hed 3’s
i own a power tap with a wheel cover

i have used the combo of a front hed3 with my powertap w/wheel cover in the back for IMFL and IMAZ but both those courses are flat.

i like using the power tap but i am not a slave to it.

suggestions?

I don’t know what you mean by “not a slave to it”. But If it were me and I wasn’t using the powertap correctly. I.e., riding specific watts for specific sections of the course. I’d shit can the powertap and drop the weight. Go with a regular cycling computer that weighs much less and use whatever wheels you wanted. The powertap is just a heavy bike computer if you’re not using it to its fullest potential. IMO.

Hed 3 front and PT with wheel cover would be my choice. Roads are near perfect and it is not THAT hilly. Use the PT to go even for the first loop as this will pay dividends on the 2nd (much like LP)

I’m going with my PT rear w/ disk cover and a borrowed 404 up front. I used to have H3s, but they were tubular and I didn’t want to carry a spare tube for the clincher rear and tubular for the front so the H3s went away.

I don’t consider myself a slave to my PT, but it has been an extremely valuable tool in training.

If there was ever a time when a PT was going to help you, it would be on a rolling IM course. It is pretty easy to get after it a little too hard on a rolling course. I think it is a no-brainer that you should race with power for an IM. Two exceptions would be if someone can’t afford it or if they are racing for the overall win.
