OK, so if you get a Kona slot at Louisville you have to go this year. Why not give the athlete a choice? Is there a rationale for making the slot available only for the race that is 6 weeks out?
Giving the athlete a choice messes up planning for how many are going this year, and how many next. There’s only so much space on the pier in Kona. So every race either has to be for this year or next. In this case, when you sign up, they advertise that the slots are for this year, so you just need to decide if 6 weeks is enough time to recover and repeak for Kona. If you don’t think that’s enough time, then best to choose another race with a bigger leadtime.
