6 days left. Am I forgetting anything?
- Bike fit today.
- Break in racing flats (have been wearing those slow motion controlled shoes all year)
- Shave taint (suggested on iamtri)
- Learn to mount/dismount bike with shoes clipped in
What am I forgetting?

Call the Y and sign up for the “learn to swim” classes.
Start looking for a nutrition plan.
Pack poser outfit to walk around expo and swim practice area.
now, that’s pretty f*ing funny!
Just curious why your doing this stuff 6 days and not 6 months before the race? Ok well maybe the taint would grow back in that time but the rest for sure. I am concerned the most about the bike fit.
Ok. I read some long and really awesome threads about first endurance. Ill switch to their stuff.
Is it too late for power cranks?
I think you left off the following:
Get bento box, extra large.
Get rear hydration system
Get front hydration system (make sure you can hold at least 4 bottles plus one up front)
Electrical tape to tape gels that don’t fit in bento box to your top tube
Buy new tubular race wheels and post on ST to find out which tubulars to buy, how to glue tubulars, how to fold spare tubular. Wait until Thursday for this.
Buy Compression socks and visor at expo
that should do you well… good luck.

6 months ago I was too busy training, working 90 hrs a week and raising my 8 kids.
Two important things about nutrition. First, your body adapts to it over time making it less effective. Do not ruin the effectiveness of your nutrition plan by practicing it in training. Save it for race day. Second, first endurance is one of many new age, high tech nutrition companies. Do not waste your money on any of them. Keep it real and keep it simple. My race day nutrition secret is watermelon. It has good carbohydrates and plenty of water. For an IM, I carry one with me on the bike (it won’t fit in my bento box) and typically have another one in my special needs bag.
Just be warned, people who dispute the above claims are likely in your age group and intentionally giving you bad advice. Don’t listen to them.
Make sure to ask random folks on the internet what you should be doing during taper.

Excuse me if this is too forward, but would you like to be my coach… and best friend?
Unfortunately, I can not be your coach. I am just not ready. I thought I knew how to prepare for an IM but now I realize I have much to learn. I came to Louisville with a bike and clothes and my watermelons but it seems that was just wasted packing. I just went to the expo and all you have to do is go up to the people say, “hi, my name is Josh. I’m new. I have a credit card.” Then those nice people will get you everything you need for your big race. I got a new wetsuit, a speedsuit (I guess I wear it under the wetsuit?), new race clothes, socks, shoes which will help me not heel strike (I don’t know what that means but it has to be a good thing), a new bike, some wheels, and a whole lot of nutrition (though I still plan on bringing a watermelon with me). I am all set for race day.
Maybe we can still be friends? Just look for the guy lugging around a watermelon. Good luck.
