I'm in a one mile line waiting to buy my new iPhone 4S right now

Just kidding.

Hahahaha. I was going to ask the mentality that is behind this phenomenon. Wait a month, walk in, buy it, done.

BUT I NEED IT FIRST!!!

Better yet…order it online last week and have it delivered to your home the same day it is available in the stores (i.e., today).

Haim

UPS delivered mine at 6:30 this morning.

I would have waited a few weeks then bought at the store, but my old phone was barely working so I ordered online the first day I could.

Im expecting mine any minute now !!!

You guys live in a 1 store town or something? I drove over to my closest AT&T store this morning around 10 and walked out in 15 minutes with one. Guy said they had hundreds and the chances of them running out of stock was slim to none. I think it’s all hype…or maybe there were so many pre-orders there are more available in store.

I tried that for the iPhone 3G. My wife’s phone had just died two days prior to the 3G’s release. I figured that since it was the 2nd phone I’d pop over to the AT&T store nearby and grab two of them on the way to work. In and out. Easy, right? The AT&T store line was pretty long, about 75 people, but not terribly bad. After about an hour they came out and told us how many they had left. Not enough to make it back to me. So I figured I’d hop in my car and go to downtown Walnut Creek to the Apple store. They would have plenty and I’d be out in a jiffy and on my way to work.

The line at the Apple store was long. Down and around the corner where Barnes and Noble is. But I was kind of commited to the idea by then and still I figured hey, what the heck, they’ll be dialed in and it will go fast. A couple of hours later as I was getting kind of close to the store, I heard about problems for people who had corporate accounts or discounts. By then I was fully commited. I’d already wasted over half of my day in line and I wasn’t going home empty handed! I spent the next half hour calling AT&T cancelling my discount on a phone that was fast running out of juice. Finally, I walked out of the Apple store with two new phones. At about 3pm!!!

It was an experience, but never again. I’ll probably upgrade my iPhone 4 when the next phone comes out. Either online, or after the initial rush. Once was more than enough.

I wonder how many of the people that bought the new iPhone are unemployed.

at least one

Not many, we are in the midst of the greatest recession since the 1930’s.

It appears that the American public is willing to spend extra discretionary money the don’t have on a product they don’t need.

Hinds57 said he walked into the Livermore AT&T and walked out with one 15 minutes later.

As an Apple shareholder, I thank you all.

Me too.

The phone is $200 with a contract. The contract is about $60 a month with with that contract you can call all over the country for no extra cost (my plan is 450 minutes with unlimited data). You can do email, maps, etc. as part of that price. I can get news on my phone, I can do my banking, pay bills, etc. When I’m in a video store I can look up the videos on IMDB and decide whether or not I want to rent it. Frankly, the iPhone is one of the most useful purchases I’ve made.

How much do you and the average American pay each month for your cable TV? To watch Dancing With the Stars???

No, I think they are taking out loans to buy the iphone to go with the new plasma television. Then, when they default on the loan, they will join the picket lines to demand greater regulations on the banks so they stop giving them loans that they can’t afford.

Oh, and it is the CEO’s fault for making a million dollars per year.

It’s just a phone. There are many phones that can do what the iphone can and can’t. The only people that NEED the phone right now are the people that want to brag that they have the latest and “greatest”. There is so much I rather do than wait on another line.

$60 X 12 = $720 + 200 = $920 in year 1, and that’s only for 450 min and I would guess most people purchase more. People are willing to spend almost $1K per year on a tool that allows them to do things they can do for free (banking, pay bills) or online? How do you think people survived 10 years ago without an iPhone? Just because you think you need it, doesn’t mean that it’s all that necessary.

The American public is stimulating the economy, which is MUCH more than can be said for the Team Donkey White House.
