It really chaffs my ass that they double rates during IM time. Any podunk festival or convention they really don’t jack rates to bad, but IM they double. Damn Parasites. Rant off.
If you mean IMLP you need to correct yourself. The hotels dont charge more, the Chamber of Commerce books and re-sells all of the rooms at the higher rate.
Are you sure about that? I just booked directly with one of the motels in LP and their rate during the IM is $215+tax. On their website they have the highest priced room at $160+tax during the same time period.
You should try bed and breakfasts they have much more reasonable rates, I am staying in a BNB 1 mile from transition for $70 a night, and you know the breakfast will be more than cereal and bagels.
Normally I wouldn’t pay that much ($215) for a room but I’m traveling solo and like to be close to transition. That’s why I love IM Florida. I can get a condo for $65/night right on the beach and be within walking distance of the race site.
Where have you been? Hotels do this all the time. Las Vegas is a perfect example where rates go sky high during conventions and then drop like a rock afterwards.
