I'm gonna wax that (bleeeep) for the LADIES & those with experience

OK, I think I am ready to finally loose what little hair I have down there. No, my calves! I don’t want to shave every day since I already spend enough time doing so. So, from what I can gather waxing seems to be a good option.

Is this something that this non-metro male can do without making my legs looks I have a super bad case of the chicken-pox (well I guess if I do this I’m a metro?, no I am not a metro! not that there is anything wrong with that). Or should I try a pro first and do the maintenance myself afterwards?

  1. On average how much does it cost for a pro-waxer?

  2. If I dare to do this on my own and read the instructions, what are some good home kits? What are the drawbacks? Infection?

  3. I don’t want to have to shave everyday and turn these little trees into the petrified forest, if there is something better than waxing feel free to comment.

On 2nd hand, I just realized that waxing is supposed to hurt a bit, so maybe I won’t uproot the trees myself. We’ll see.

Why do you feel the need to remove the hair from your legs? I’ve never quite understood this.

For professional cyclists that stand a better than average chance of crashing and infection, perhaps its warranted, but for the average triathlete or cyclist?

I don’t wax my legs, but I do have other areas waxed. I find that the only time I can actually do my own waxing effectively is if it is a very small area, such as on the face. I have a small bit of hair on my chin I wax off myself every couple of months or so. Sally Hensen makes these little wax strips they sell in the beauty aisle of Target or any drug store. I’ve experimented with larger areas and with the kind of wax you goop on and it’s always been a disaster – hurts like hell and didn’t do a good job at removing the hair. As to cost, I have no idea what it would cost to do the legs, but a good bikini wax runs about $40, so I bet both legs would be expensive. Shaving is not a bad alternative – it’s cheap and effective. A little lotion afterwards and you’re on your way.

He needs to shave/wax them, believe me.

E–We about melted on the rest of the ride. Felt good until the 4 hour mark, then boom. Rumor has it it was 100F up there.

I was hallucinating big time. I swear I saw a purple dinosour jump into a pool of gatorade on one of those vineyards.

It wasn’t 100, weather.com says 96 right now but my temp. gauge read 105 all the way to the Bay. I’m glad that I didn’t know how hot it was while we were out there. (I guessed 80something, sheesh).

My legs have not hurt like this in a good while and I did 500 yds of kick sets the other day. ;-0 Hope it cools off for you all next week (I know you want it hot). Must get out there more often because we are so spoiled with the Bay weather. There is no summer here. Thx again for setting up the ride and good luck next week, I might be out there taking pics.

I’ll be wearing my Cubs umbrella hat and a misting fan around my neck.

Dude, it was 100. When we finished the ride, we called my friends in Santa Rosa and it was 97 at their house. It’s always 4-5 degrees hotter up at the top of the course. We about emptied Carls Jr. of all their fluids.

Don’t you think the ‘average triathlete of cyclist’ has just as much chance of crashing and getting infection? It facilitiates a better massage, plus we’ve all discussed this till the cows come home, it just looks nice on a fit set of legs.

Those reasons sound good to me and add feels cooler in the heat, less drag in water, and did I mention feels cooler in the heat.

I googled waxing and these things kind of stood out:

  1. A story of a news reporter getting a brazilian bikinin wax - NO I WILL NEVER… but a funny read nonetheless.

I guess this dude is screwed since he isn’t a pro cyclist. I suppose the male waxers won’t comment for fear of public vilification (snicker). Thanks all.

  1. it’s not that expensive. i found a body waxing shop, and that’s far less expensive than a fancy spa. at the spa it’s about 65 bucks. at the body wax shop about 45 dollars.

  2. don’t do it on your own the first time–go have it done and from there you’ll be able to see if you can stand it yourself.

  3. there is really nothing better than waxing. it leaves you hairless for a decent amount of time…and is quite effective

Besides…smooth is very nice! Also, I’m a Massage Therapist and hairless athletes are a “nice glide”

I’m another massage therapist who agrees that hairless legs/arms/etc are a whole lot easier work on. It makes the gliding easier and I think that the client gets a more efficient massage session…
