Sometime around January, when my new bike arrives. I’ve decided to finally buy a bike with big boy wheels. Kind of sucks as I have about a dozen sets of 650s, everything from shitty trainers to ZIPP discs.
I just don’t see the point any longer in me staying with 650s. Most of the riding I do is not in triathlons, and the extra $$ I pay in custom frame work to make a 650 road bike pays for a nice set of race wheels.
I guess I could keep my current bike as well…but it would be sad to see it sit in the basement.
Thoughts on this encouraged.
What size is your frame and what size wheels are you riding on?
yeah, 51 and I’d go with 650 as well. I was quite happy with my 650 wheels on my old 54-55 or so Powerwing but finding tires on sale sucked so now I’m all 700c. Plus now that I can afford more than one bike, a tri and a road bike, interchangeability is a nice feature.
I have 2 Elite Tri bikes, a 53cm 650c T-6 and a size small 700c Aria (their beam bike). Keep my e-mail address (tribato@hotmail.com) and let me know when you start liquidating your hoops. I can always use more wheels. On group rides I ride my Team Once Giant road bike 'cuz it’s just more convenient to be on 700’s if one flats (CO2’s, tubes, etc.). But at 5’9" I like the fit of my 650.

Just spending money I don’t have on tri gear that I don’t need
Wow. How short is your head tube going to be?Hey thats personal! Actually, I’m probably looking at a 52cm bike, here’s the frame chart for the Calfee Dragonfly - my next ride. I have a custom Tetra Pro now with 650s.
It handles like a dream, before it I had a 2000 Saber. The Lucero tracks straight, smooths out the road and climbs like a beast. Definitely my favorite ride! Oh, and it looks sooo sexy!
I’m 5’4", very long torso. sorry to hijack, but I’m curious to know what people would think of me riding, say, a 52cm 700c P2K. I have only 1 cm of drop on my main road bike, and I already have a pretty low position. I have 2 cm of drop on my crit bike. I can get away without a whole lot of drop and still be pretty low.
