anyone know if the race starts with people on the beach or in the water? Thanks!
beach start. 2 loops. You run on the beach between loops.
so, the first and last 100s of each loop are pretty fast, I’m guessing?
Thanks for the info!

I wouldn’t say the first part of the swim was fast. It’s actually pretty slow as it’s extremely crowded for first 800m or so to the the first turn. The swim opens up after that and was pretty pleasant the rest of the way. Absolutely beautiful water!
Just watch for the jellyfish
.
Last year there was a bad cross-current, especially during the second loop. It was also pretty rough. I had waves breaking OVER my head.
Wear dark goggles. The sun will be right in your eyes for part of the swim.
there is a special needs station after the first loop where you can pick up your fins
.
I wouldn’t say the last 100 is fast either :). You kind of have to run out of the water with waves and current hitting you. The fast parts are usually away from the beach after the breakers.
+1
I was stung 2 days pre-race.
Race day - you could see them floating down below as you swam along.
wear mirrored goggles if you can find them. then you can see the buoys since you will be looking into the rising sun

There are probably several dozen you tube videos of IMFL swim start.
Word of advice- if the current is moving east (from right to left facing gulf) take the time on the second loop to run back to swim start rather than diagonal into the water. Do your best to start second loop as direct to first buoy as possible. Time saver and crowd avoided.

x2. I didn’t see you last year but if you were there, you and I were the only ones who did it.
Thanks everyone!
