Any one remember what year IM started giving race/finisher flags/banners?
Whatever year that those races stopped giving posters. Seems in the past every race had a poster until the flags started showing up. But I don’t recall ever getting both the flag and the poster. Of course, some Ironman races outside of the US give neither.
8IM since 2015-all had posters and flags except Tremblant (Choo, LP, Lou, Wisco)…
IM Louisville 2015 - I don’t recall getting either
IM Switzerland 2016 - no flag or poster
IM South Africa 2017 - no flag or poster
IM Texas 2017 - I think I got both
IM Norway 2018 - no flag or poster
IM Hawaii 2019 - no flag, poster yes

I bought a poster or two. Were they giving them away? If they were giving away finisher flags, were they giving them away before the race?
If the race had them, they gave them to you at check-in and were free. I typically ask for a second poster and they’ve always handed it to me. To get the posters home, I wrap them around the tube of my travel pump and throw them in the suitcase. Works like a champ.
What race was it that you bought a poster?
I’m looking at posters from IM Lou 2011 & 2012 as well as Raleigh 70.3 2013 right now. As best I recall, I bought them all.
2014 Choo - no flag
2015 IMLP - flag
so my experience is they started in 2015.
Never received a flag for a 70.3 though.
Got a flag from the Florida 70.3 last year. No poster there. I think the evidence suggests there is no rhyme or reason to the flag thing.
Placid had both poster and flag (for finishers) this year

IMLOU last weekend was the first time I received a flag that said finisher. We also got posters when checking in.
