IM-distance Nutritionist

Anyone out there know of a credible nutritionist for long distance events such as IM. I ask this both personally and professionally as GI issues have plagued me on the run in every IM I have done. As a physician I can arguably sort out the “BS articles” better than others and it clear that there is alot of advice given out there without any scientific foundation. I also recognize that everyone is different as far as their caloric, fluid, and salt replacement needs and therefore to globally make recommendations on nutrition is wrong. I have actually tried InfinIT and had the same problems with bloating/cramping and I think they oversimplify the process yet make it sound like it is in fact individualized. Any help would be appreciated. It is frustrating to put in so many hours training for an event only to DNF because of what should be a “correctable” problem.

I’m not sure if she’s specifically an IM-distance nutritionalist but Ellen Coleman gives a lot of helpful advice to those racing IMs over on cruciblefitness.com. I know she is available for consultations and what not. Not sure if this helps. Good luck.

Correctable? Perhaps. This may not be the answer you are looking for but maybe IM distance racing is not for you. No shame in this at all as many top shorter distance specialists have had some spectacular blow-ups at IM races and then come to the same conclusion.

The current problem is their is this almost total obbession with IM distance racing right now like it’s the thing to do.

Fleck

I’m with Fleck on this one (actually, I can’t remember when I have not agree with Fleck!). I’m certainly not an IM racer. Sure, I can complete one just fine, and might even make the podium in my AG. BUT, as far as being an IM-type person, I’m certainly not.

Hope you find the solution (pun intended) that you search for…
