What do you folks think about IM Cozumel as a family event destination? Will have the wife and 8 yr old kiddo so I’m just trying to determine some logistics and planning such as what to do and how long to stay before/after while we’re there. We love water activities and hiking… would love to do some snorkeling. What is there to do on the island with family themed stuff in mind, and during this event? Are there any ruins/historical sites on the island or do you have to take a tour over on the peninsula? Is everything to do crowded the week of the event or being off-season is it still pretty low key for the touristy stuff? Appreciate any thoughts.
Well, Cozumel is a major cruise ship destination, they dock there 6 days a week (Sundays are the Islands only day off). There are 100s of different things that cater to the cruise ship crowd and yes there are some ruins.
If you book things when there are 3 or 4 cruise ships docked, it can get busy. But, if you are more adventurous, you can find spots that aren’t bad. Last time there were 3 of us and we had a rental vehicle, drove down towards the lighthouse and made a left to a snorkle area. There wasn’t anybody else there so for $30 each we got a ride out to the reef, someone to point out stuff to us and gear plus water in the way back and about an hour and a half of Snokeling 2 reefs.
Lots of souvenir shops plus, high end stuff (jewelry) I’d you are interested.
I’m back this September.
Cozumel is a great place, must do’s scuba diving, ruins on the main land.
Pm me if you like, its my 3rd home.
