IM Choo Choo today...wetsuit legal?

Watching the live feed of the swim exit this morning (I have a couple budrows doing the race today)…the first time I looked, lots of people getting out of the water, and none were wearing wetsuites. Now, folks are still coming in, usually it’s just one or two at a time, and nobody else visible…all of these folks are wearing wetsuits. Is the temp of the river where folks can wear wetsuits, but not KQ, or something?

77 degrees per the event FB page.

Non-wetsuit, but BIG current, all downstream… hence the crazy fast times.

wet suit = unable to KQ or get an award. Basically they take themselves out of anything award related, but I’m sure Rielly will still call them an ironman.

Wet suit optional. All of those people had to start last. Huge huge current which caused an incredible cluster fuck at bike out. We are guessing the bike is going to be one peloton.

The athlete tracking on ironman.com is messed up. Any other free option to track?

There are a couple iPhone apps, but I’m not having any issues with the ironman athlete tracker at the moment.

Yeah, just watched the last person come out of the water, and I heard somebody say her time was 1:47. Also seeing lots of waaaay sub-hour swims out there, like 38 minutes, 44 minutes.

Odd. I get an error when trying to see details and then nothing shows except for the athlete’s bio info. I’m on an ipad so maybe that’s a problem. I used to use IronTrac but now they charge a fee. I want to see my friends’ progress but it can wait.

I’m having the same problems on my Windows laptop.

Cool. Good to know it’s not just me. Thanks.

Tracker sucks for me too.

This probably goes under “first world problems”, but why is there only one split for the bike and run when both courses are loops?

This is going to become THE most popular ironman. You get a tow on the swim and a tow on the bike.

Expect a few ‘PRs’ today

Rich Strauss at EN put up a video of the bike mount line on his FB page. It was absurd how many people were coming out at the same time.

If it really is a 116 mile bike (think I read that on slowtwitch somewhere?!?!) that will offset some of the time savings from the downstream swim.

From my brief perusal of the swim times, it actually looks like the downstream current actually hurts the good swimmers. Pretty much the leaderboard in M40-44 was 45-55’. The pro’s didn’t seem that far ahead.

Yes, yes, I know this is sort of obvious, as good swimmers get even more advantage into a strong current, but it sort of sucks for decent swimmers…

I guess, unless there happens to be any drafting lol.

It doesn’t matter in the end. The KQ slots will be fast times today, but you simply can’t compare between courses. i.e.; saying you went sub 10 hours at Choo, probably isn’t the same as saying you did sub 10 hours at IMLP or CDA etc…

Seeing those swim times, I predict instant sellout for 2015.

I was standing there with Rich. At one point it was more than ridiculous. You know it will be one long string of riders wheel to wheel. It was surprising that no one went down in the melee.
