I feel so bad for everyone. Who’d expect a hurricane to impact a race hundreds of miles from the Gulf. I have a friend who is doing it as his first and he’s really upset.

I wonder if river swims are more susceptible to cancellation. Obviously, rain poses a much greater threat to river swims either through the impact on current or pollution. Lake and ocean swims may be more susceptible to currents or wind. The Chicago Tri was cancelled due to wind and waves in 2023.

Looking at the weather the next 3 days there I’m not sure this race will happen.

It seems pretty chill so far. Just a bit of rain at this point. It should be fine.

I haven’t seen Skipper crushing it in years… I think the guy is done.

Weather right in Chat has been fine outside of some rain Thursday, and the forecast s fine. Swim wasn’t cancelled just because of the weather directly in Chat. There was a good explanation of it on the Chat FB page, regarding the different rivers that feed in, sewage, etc…

No swim tomorrow is a huge boost for Skipper. The comeback win might be on

It doesn’t really benefit him anymore than it does Long.

Thanks for doing this Tour !!!

Back to the race, my friend’s son was doing his first Ironman, so he got up early and went to his hotel pool and swam endless laps till he covered 2.4 miles and then went to race start and got the rest done. Dammit he was gonna do a full Ironman yesterday and got the “full value medal”. He just needed to make a way to get his swim done!!! Not bad for a 22 year old who was not gonna let a hurricane (nor the death of his dad earlier this year) stop him . Gotta love that spirit.

Gah, sorry just getting to this (and I owe you a chat beyond that!)… got home from Chatt and proceeded to get sick. I heard about that athlete on race morning, doing the swim ahead of the race! Everyone else pretty content to let the swim go (well, except for the ppl that that felt cheated out of their swim training and didn’t really look at how gross brown and fast the river was moving that morning… IM made the right call)… love that someone said “eh, gonna get that swim in anyway!”

Yeah, no way I would wake up earlier to do 2.4 miles in a 12 yard hotel pool, but he was going to get the ironman done as it was part of his therapy (the training and the goal) after his dad (my friend) died from a heart attack this spring. His dad and I did all the Ontario race circult back in the 80’s so cool to see his son doing his first IM AND getting the swim done after the cancellation
