So my father in law proposed a challenge that I race IM Canada 2012 with him next year. He signed up this past week. I just checked the website and general slots are sold out, which must have happened the past few days?. I should be fine to get in as a pro later on, but now we’ve brought my brother in on the challenge. He wants to do it as well. I’m new to the IM stuff so not sure how the registration works exactly with the Community Fund spots. Does anyone know how many there are, how quickly those sell out, and if there’s a shot at a slot? Also, are there ever transfers allowed from people who can’t race/bail out? Does IM allow this? Any other way to get my brother in? Thanks
I’m pretty sure you can get a community fund slot up to next summer. Another option is the Desert Half. They have a few qualifying slots for each age group. I think that race is in July.
they’ll open community fund slots sometime, they have a limited # of those and they don’t usually announce when they are running low. Some races they go fast, some races they don’t all sell out. Best bet is to pay for a community fund slot as soon as they become available to guarantee entry.
Check out The Great White North Triathlon in Edmonton. I raced and had an awesome time. Just an Awesome atmosphere at the event. They had a ton of IMC spots, so much so that the race director emailed post race to see if there was anyone that needed a spot.
A trip to do the race would be a way better way for you brother to spend his money than the community fun in my opinion.

You didn’t say where you’re located, but if you’re in Alberta, it’s an option.
I’d be interested to know how the OP’s FIL got in last week, since the general entry sold out in about 10 days this year.

Hmm my wife said he had said he signed up, maybe she heard him wrong or something. Maybe he said he was planning on it. Possibly a miscommunication. I’ll have to double check with him
