Aparently they have gone up from $425 US to $465. So if you are having someone sign you up, take notice.
Entry fee is $575 Cdn or $465 USD
ouch

an interesting parallel question for economics and IM fans: (not that they would necessarily do this, although it is possible) do you have any predictions on how high the WTCorp. would have to raise north american IM entry fees to start shrinking the entry fields?
US $500 ? $750 ? $1000 ? $1500 ? more?
I wouldn’t pay over $600 US. Especially if the CAN $ were to ever hit 60 US again. That would make it a $1000 CAN race for me. Too much
I think for IMC the price is set in CDN dollars. The canuck buck has had a pretty good run over the last few years, so the equivalent US price has gone up. Going from as low as US$0.60/C$1.00 to US$0.835/C$1.00 yesterday.
This practice makes business sense as I imagine a large portion of WTC’s expenses for IMC are in C$, therefore they are running a matched book.
For example my entry for LP next year only cost me C$515 because of the exchange rate, last year it would have cost me almost C$570.
Yup, seems like it was just to level the currency. C$575 is the same as the 2005 fee. I paid in U$ because it worked out to less. So, they have adjusted the U$ fee to the strengthened C$.
Pink
Actually the Canadian dollar has dropped relative to a basket of world currencies, mostly being pulled down by it’s association with the US dollar. Canada is the only G8 nation running a budgetary surplus, and has a lot of oil too. It’s just that the US dollar has dropped quite a bit more, so looking from the US side, it looks like the Canadian dollar has gone up.
That’s also why you don’t hear the Canadians crying as much about gas prices as south of the border. South of the border is the double whammy of increasing oil and shrinking dollars.

Interesting question…for some reason I think the number lies somewhere between the 500-750 US dollar mark…not sure exactly where, though. My gut tells me at $500 they all still sell out like crazy…at $750, not so much. For me, $600 would be the line (charitable donation entries aside).

We are so going to invade you when the middle east dries up. Lots of oil and better beer will be too much for us to resist. We may even adopt your national athem, as it is way better than ours.

If they only had suites and sky boxes at stadiums? Would attendance drop? Probably. But the demographics of the crowds would certainly change. While triathletes as a whole, are a relatively affluent group, I wouldn’t want IM to become on the domain of only the wealthy, CEO’s, charities or other group where ‘someone’ else is footing the bill.
What needs to happen is to have more media coverage and hence sponsors. That would drive down the cost of holding the event, so entry fees, and participation numbers (and associated revenue streams, ie. hotels, restaurants etc.) wouldn’t be as important.
I was referring to the US/C exchange trend only. You are correct though. But for me and mine, the US exchange rate is the only one that impacts our life directly on a regular basis (such as registering for IM).
There’s a lot of good Iron-distance non-WTC races out there. So they’d need to find a balance point or the only people who will pay such high prices will be the ones shooting for Kona slots. The rest of us will simply save money and enjoy 300 people swims. Living in the Pacific NW I can think of 6 iron races within a day’s drive off the top of my head, only 2 are WTC. I will say that Couer d’ Alene last year was probably the best put together race I’ve ever done, but the “grassroots” organizers are learning fast and WTC needs to be careful or they could price themselves out of the market.
Canada has their own money? Huh…

And it is on good quality stock with cool colorful pictures - not like the toilet paper you people down south print on with depressing ink color.

what are the other 4? I know there is one in washington somewhere, but that’s it…i didn’t think there was that many unless you get into oregon.
Of course there’s IMCdA and IMC. Then there’s one in eastern Washington and one in Harrison BC. Extending the “day drive” time there’s Californiaman in, well CA. New to the scene is the one in Vegas starting this year. I’m sure there’s many others too as Vegas is about 13 hours and heading east 13ish hours has to produce some other options, Salt Lake City area?

I heard bad things about the Harrison by a friend who did it…i think there were like 11 people in the race and he was at the turaround on the bike (around a cone placed somewhere) and a cop stopped him to ask him what was going on…wild.
Whats the eastern washington one? I read about one that was up near or at some dam that was a few hours from Seattle - is that the one? A day’s drive from Seattle would be nice…
Yeah, the sad thing is that is probably true. I think we are good people individually, believing in the rule of law, individual freedoms, and all. But the gang that controls our country writes their own laws and directs the media, leading to us believing what is required for them to pursue their private ambitions and goals (whatever they really are?), while we are placated by Reality Shows.
The notion that Canada could choose to sell it’s oil somewhere else if ‘We’ wanted it? A joke. And that thought saddens me.
