IM Canada 2011

I am just looking at what IM to book in for next year. My wife and master has decided to put up with another year of vanishing husband (training) as long as we go somewhere nice where we can holiday post IM. We looked at New Zealand but it is just too expesive with flights (from UK with 2 kids!! how much!?!?). Looked very quickly at Canada and it seems pretty stunning. Does anyone else have idea of where to go (or of Canada)? It needs to be warm and there needs to be holiday potential there too.

Japan!
Super race, it’s warm (hot) and great for kids.

Thats a damn good idea. Hadnt even crossed my mind! nice one. many thanks. Will check out the website.

My boyfriend and i did IMC last year and absolutely loved it. Great race, lovely people with amazing support and loads to do around Penticton. Totally recommend it. Weather was pretty damn roasting too!

In my view IMC has it all. In fact for years, many in the sport said in someways it was better than IMH! The course is a stunner - challenging but does not kill you. The town fully gets behind the event. Massive support. Huge crowds. Usually perfect weather. Great vacation options in the surrounding Okanagan Valley area - one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Still run by the guy that really put Ironman distance racing on the map in North America. Finally, it’s one of the original IM races. At one time there were only 5 or so in the whole world! It has a history. You will have done one of the true classic events in the sport!

Many thanks for the info. I have to admit that Canada seems to be pretty amazing. Have looked at Wanaka and West Australia too but they just seem soooo expensive to get to. Canada does seem much cheaper too. Does anyone know of a good holiday website or agent that deals with Canada? Would need to convince the boss lady but by the looks of the place that isnt going to be too hard! Getting exited now even though its more than a year and 1.5 IM races away!!

Have you thought about South Africa? Flights might be cheaper coming from the UK and there are lots to do from a vacation perspective there.

Canada is also a great option. I did IM Canada last year and took a trip afterwards with my wife to Lake Louise, Banff and Jasper. She loved it! Lake Louise is about a 6-8 hour drive from Penticton. On the way back you can fly out of Alberta since it will be closer. PM me if you want some more specific details.

There was a great thread after IM St. George about this:
