IM bike prep?

What do you experinced IM guys recommend to do. I have 2 weeks until my IM race and I want to get my bike into the shop for a tune up, race wheels, brake pads, etc. My race wheels are tubulars and carbon rims. I want the bike ready to race, but I also have 6 rides mostly short according to my training plan. Is it better to wait until just a few days and only get 20 miles in to make sure things are tuned correctly, or does it make sense to do in now, ride the wheels until race day.

Thanks

I like 2-3 rides to shake out any gremlins in the ‘new’ components…but riding things for 5-6 rides shouldn’t do you any harm.

I’d stay off any dirt roads…

.

If the bike is working fine now odds are it is fine. Do you have a shop that you go to a lot? If so run it by there soon and just have them put the race wheels on and give the bike a good inspection. After that throw your training wheels back on and go on your training rides.

My race wheels are the wider rims then my trainig wheels… so my brakeshave to be adjusted…

LBS says t just ride it once it is set to go… Thoughts?

I’m not putting anything new on unless I need to.

But my LBS is going to get it on Tuesday afternoon…they will perform a “looksie” to make sure everything looks good. Perhaps minor adjustments unless there is a bigger problem. Then I will have 2 short rides to work out any kinks with the race being Sunday.

if you are adding new stuff, I’d want to ride it 3-4 times times.

I have the same issue with my race wheels but come race day I just ride with the brakes open. If your brakes are adjusted to your race wheels can you not effectively brake when using your training wheels?
