after reading different sites (hammer nutrition, infiniti (sp?) and such) about what to consume while on the bike portion of a IM race i was wondering if someone could help me with a question . after all of my long workouts i have been using Endurox R4 recovery and i have had great results. i need to take in more cals on the bike and the question that i have is, could this be something that i can use on the bike portion of the race, or would i be stupid to think i can use a recovery drink as fuel. i ask b/c it seems to sit well and looking at the nutriutal info it doesnt seem to be that far off of some of the other supplements that say they are a endurance drink. just a FYI Endurox has 270cals, 52g carbs, 40g sugars, 13g protein, and 210mg of sodium…it also has potassium, magnesium, vit E, vit C, Calcium.
I understand that nutrition strategies are highly individual but I have experimented with Endurox during long training sessions and have had nothing but negative experiences with it. I love it for post-workout recovery though.
I like Endurox for recovery too, but I’d be mainly worried about two things - 1) the relatively high protein level might not sit so well in the stomach, especially once you get to the run and 2) Endurox’s consistency and flavor might make it tough to get down after some hours in a bike bottle, especially on a hot day.
Try it on a long Brick and see what happens. maybe it works for you, and that’s all that matters.
