Are their any training calendars for doing halfs next summer (3) and a full Ironman with two halfs in 2011. I am doing my first marathon this Sunday and have done a few sprint tris and would like to have a “game plan” for next summer and the following… I currently follow my own made up program but would like something to give me some guide lines… thank you for any ideas you have…
I did 3 HIM’s this season and 4 last year. Realistically I was only able to “race” at 2 of them while the 3rd one this year I did “OK” and the 4th one last year was a disaster.
Just pick your favorite plan, peak for your first one then give yourself 2 weeks of down time. After that follow the last weeks of your plan for the second one. I would recommend 8 to 10 weeks between them. Any closer than 8 weeks you will lose the adaptation period to improve.
As for the 2 HIM’s plus an IM, you are going to have to be pretty strong to pull that off or train through one of the HIM’s. That is a waste of money and training time to me but that is only my opinion based on my own experience.
As for training plans: Endurance Nation worked well for me and Matt Fitzgeralds plan worked well too. Personally I feel the EN plan was better.

Simple enough. Plan out a IM training season. The halfs are part of your speed work. Depending where they fall in your schedule, they are either a B race or an A race. Note that as you’re planning an IM in 2011, I’d plan an IM schedule for 2010 to get use to the base building bigger volume. You’ll still be fast for the halfs in 2010.
It’s worked for me for 4 halfs and 2 IMs this year, and 6 halfs and an IM in 2006.
