I'm a freaking race director!

Like most of you I’ve been racing racing since high school (well over 20 years ago) in everything from 5k’s, to multiple Ironmans and adventure races. Also like most of you, I take mental notes during races under the headline “If I were the race director of this race I would have…”

Well, four months ago, thanks to Air Force Colonel MacGregor, that dream came true. We teamed up with the Air Force and put on a 3.39 mile mud run at our joint Sheriff/Fire training academy. Thanks to an awesome group of Company Grade Officers, and my co-race director, Captain Al Knapp the race was a huge success. We built 10 mud pits and multiple other obstacles on our training grounds in just a few short weeks. Although it was buck naked cold (for us west coasties) on race morning, the race was a huge hit with everyone from law enforcement, military, fire and the surrounding community.

It was a ton of work, but let me tell you, the feeling of success at the end of the day was very similar to crossing the line at an Ironman! Here’s two videos of the event. In case I didn’t post the links properly, they can be found under Defenders Dash Mud Run.
