finishing up a 2hr ride portion of my final pre timberman brick. literally 10 yds from my parking lot thinking about getting thru the transition quickly when I hit a new pothole. Watching one’s bike fly over one’s head is a rather disconcerting feeling. four hrs , 10 stitches in my right knee, (down to the bone), one 2nd degree separation of my right xhoulder, one intravenous dilaudid ( holy smokes that shit is strong) and a cracked helmet later, I am home again and thankfully it looks like the bike is ok. So it looks like timberman is out which really bums me out as I was feeling like I could have a good race. I will still be going as my daughter is doing timberkids and my gf is doing the sprint ( her first race ever) So if you need more cowbell just let the guy in the sling know.
what is the recovery, and prognosis for separated shoulders?
any reccomendations for road rash?
n
pics to follow of the fountai of blood coming out of my knee as the PA irrigated the hole
and let me repeat this dilaudid shit is strong I havent been this wasted since the dead at compton terrace back in the day
Yeah, Dilaudid is the shit.
Best part of the worst day of my life. Friendly ambulance guys Abe and Dan said they liked to call it Deluded as they were setting up the IV. And then I found out why.
Good luck piecing yourself back together. Rough crash.
Seriously, sorry to hear about your crash. That’s a bummer but sounds like you’re gonna make a great cheerleader.
I used to work with a doctor who gave dilaudid to anyone with the slightest hint of pain, earning the predictable nickname “dr dilaudid”. He kinda backed off a little when employeed started regularly showing up on his shifts with mysterious aches and pains…never tried it myself, but I’ve heard you should drink tons of water when coming off of it…
So sorry to hear about that. What a freak deal 10 yards from finishing your bike ride. I had a low-speed wreck with my wife about two years ago 100 yards from finishing our ride, but we were literally rounding a corner on a sidewalk going like 1mph so fortunately no injury. Hope you heal quickly!
I separated my shoulder playing soccer in college was about a three week deal. Cycling might put added stress on the joint especially in the aero position. Sorry to hear about the crash, I had a bad one last week, did not get the good drugs though.
