And it is only sensible. Who would run from strippers?
This is my memory, too. Air temp was very cold, water was actually a reprieve. I wore socks and gloves that I dumped in the last trash can in the entry chute for the start (womenâs).
I was looking at a few 70.3s for next year, and I noticed that Happy Valley 70.3 (June 30, 2024) is offering slots to the 2024 WC, while Muskoka (July 7, 2024) is offering slots to the 2025 WC. It doesnât have a location yet, but at least we now know (if we didnât already?) where the dividing line is.
Uhm, I said ĂąâŹĆŸbeyond OctoberĂąâŹÂ, and I think water temperature could be an issue in November? Correct me if IĂąâŹâąm wrong, by all meansĂąâŹÂŠI guess it would be around 19-21ĂÂșC , it depends a bit on currents (west brings colder). But not bad at all , you can swim here the whole year with a wetsuit.
Coldest can get , january-february , itâs around16ĂÂșC.Iirc last (late) October at St George the water temperature was <15 ĂÂșC (sub 60 ĂÂșF) for the women, at least.
Thats not how I remember it.
Thought the water temps was pretty nice.
It was air temp that was cold in the morning.
Particularly for the female race.
My memory is that water temp was low 60s and air temp low 40s for women, mid-40s for men. I donĂąâŹâąt like the cold and I was pretty uncomfortable on the long run from the wetsuit strippers at the waterĂąâŹâąs edge to transition as well the first 15-20 minutes of the bike. But all in all, it was pretty manageable.
Watching my wife come out of T1, IIRC, the air temp was in the 30âs⊠It warmed up rather quickly, but the first portion of the bike was incredibly cold for a triathlon.
Where are you seeing that Happy Valley has slots to Taupo 24? Canât readily find that info on their website so imagine Iâm missing something.
Yeah, other than maybe the past two years where they were having trouble filling St. George or needing to reallocate slots from pandemic cancelled races, the cutoff has always been end of June for the current year.

On the main page of each race, if you scroll down you can see under the âFlex 90â and its one of the tiles beside âvolunteerâ and âcourseâ - it will have a photo specifying whether its '24 or '25
Triingtotrain mentioned Estonia, and I think Rdaitch just mistook Estonia for Poland. Which is fine. Polish and Estonian people donât really take offence at being conflated with other countries, other than Russia of course
I would go to either Estonia or Poland.
I wish we knew where 2025 70.3 worlds were going to be located. Still not sure if Iâll fly again but maybe just for a special event once in a while. And it would have to be a somewhat reasonable flight distance. No long hauls for me. Too hard for me personally.

Thanks, I was indeed overlooking that.

we donât know where the 70.3 wc will be⊠but it is worse the lack of transparency with: all 70.3 races qualify (and how many slots) for 70.3 WC Taupo (in the slot allocation list, there are races until june) .

Yep, it was very cold. On the menâs day, i was in gloves, beanie and socks beofre i put my wetsuit on. Water temp was ok, air temp was very cold. I put on full winter gloves, arm wamers and gilet and didnât even begin to warm up until 35-40km into the bike.

Even if I wanted to do a long-haul flight to Taupo, I canât even book a flight out of my own airport. Would have to fly out of Boston or Montreal. And weâre talking around 30 hours of flying and $2-3K tickets for basic economy. No way. Now if some company could organize charter flights for athletes/athlete families for folks who live far away from Taupo, I just might try and qualify.
To your point, it should be crystal clear which races have slots for Taupo. I do wish it wasnât such an ordeal to get there for many of us.
Drive to Montreal, then it is an easy Montreal to Vancouver + Vancouver to Auckland (one stop only). Quit making excuses, as the Kiwis have to do the opposite whenever they race with us and you donât hear them complaining. It is a giant world and getting around is not always fair. Most of the time the Kiwis have to shrug their shoulders and suck it up. People in Europe and USA think they need to be the center of the universe ALL THE TIME, but once in a while the far âcorners of the worldâ (said from a US or European perspective) get to be center of the universe and it is the other way around.

Donât hold back Dev
Iâm a terrible flyer. I am still recovering from my flight less than a week ago.
Itâs funny but no one ever really talks about how tough and difficult flying can be. And I do sympathize with Kiwis and others who have to travel incredible distances. I was in line during the Hoâala swim talking with a woman who traveled from Kenya. Now that was quite a flight. I just canât do the long hauls anymore. I also get really claustrophobic and have to manage anxiety while flying (spare you the details lol). Delta Comfort plus was a bit of a help with extra leg room on my last flights. And flights went rather smoothly. Just very long with three different flights each way. I left on a Wed and got home after midnight on Friday morning. I am actually amazed I did so well during the flights. But now Iâm absolutely wrecked. 4 negative covid tests and I think I dodged a lot of bullets.
I will look into the flights you mentioned but when I did look at flying out of Montreal I didnât see those options. Plus itâs another flight from Auckland to Taupo. Iâm a grumpy old fart nowadays and just donât like the big long flights anymore. Thinking I might have to wait and see where 2025 70.3 worlds will be.
Depended on which wave you started in, M45-49 went last and I put on no cold weather gear at all, toes were cold until the first U-Turn (on the highway by the reservoir), after that was quite comfortable. Seemed like a lot of people were overdressed by the time they hit Snow Canyon.
Yes, do look into Montreal - Vancouver + Vancouver - Auckland then rent a car and drive to Taupo. I do sympathize with the hate of long haul. I did too many years of big miles (I think I am passed 750K lifetime on Air Canada alone, plus everything else). My issue is related to lumbar disc challenges that longâŠprobably all those years of endless flying for work and sitting in various modes of transport did not help.
Anyway, yes, letâs see where 2025 worlds will be.
I am so confused. They announced at Lahti that 70.3 WC 2025 was for sure in Spain. Why is this not common knowledge?
Is this documented anywhere?
Who announced and when in Lahti?
Who announced and when in Lahti?
There was no formal announcement in Lahti that I heard. Just random chatter
