Published Monday, April 13, 2009
Mike Reilly, best known as the “Voice of Ironman” worldwide, will be the announcer at this year’s Ironman 70.3 Kansas. “We are very excited to have Mike Reilly announcing at Ironman 70.3 Kansas this year in Lawrence, Kansas.” says assistant Race Director, Ryan Robinson. “Athletes from around the mid-west will be able to hear Mike start each swim wave and call out the name of each finisher on June 14th. For most of our over 2,000 participants, it will be the first time they have heard Mike’s voice and witnessed his energy at the finish line.”
Reilly has welcomed over 100,000 athletes across Ironman finish lines to the world famous phrase “You are an Ironman” since 1989. He has worked over 1000 endurance events in his career including 20 Ironman Hawaii’s and 83 Ironmans worldwide. Reilly worked the first ever professional triathlon in San Diego in 1980 with Scott Tinley, Scott Molina, Dave Scott and Mark Allen competing.
He ran his first marathon in 1978 and completed his first triathlon in 1979 and still runs and cycles on a daily basis near his home in San Diego, CA. Reilly will also be announcing each of the Ironman events in the United States this summer and will again be at the finish line for the 2009 Ironman World Championship in Kona on October 10th.
Congrats to you and IM Kansas Tom!
Can you give us any assurance that we won’t have to hear him announce “uh, huh, huh…there is a chop on the water, huh, huh…can we have everyone back to the transition area… We are going to do a run - bike - run!!!” ? ![]()

“Suzie Smith, from Debuke Iowa… YOU. ARE. A 70.3-Ironmaaaaaaaannnnnnn”
Haha!
Let’s hope we do not have any bad weather this year for IM 70.3 Kansas. It will be great to have Mike announcing in Lawrence. We might even try to get him to wear a tin man or scarecrow out fit!
